I've Been Pleased, Even With My One Return
Many companies ship knives less sharp for safety as excited customers often cut themselves right out of the package. It is a common thing, though not universal. This company sells good knives and, along with Khukuri House Themal, seem to be selling the genuine article. It is hard to be sure without going there, but Ex Gurkha and the other one I just mentioned leave a lot of positive information and clues. KHT even made the presentation knife for Prince Harry when he visited Nepal in 2016. EGKH, this supplier, has a 100% approval rating on Amazon. Both houses I mention were founded by former British service Gurkhas. Any individual item can be flawed, even from the best manufacturers. I returned one of three bought from these guys, but I kept the other two and I'm also ordering this model right now. The one I returned was fine and had no flaws. It had a shorter blade and, perhaps because of that, the handle was too small for me to grip comfortably. Two reviewers here say the model here in this listing meets actual British Gurkha standards as seen by them in the field, and it is described as the model for the Nepal Army, not British. That's impressive. I have noticed after quite a few purchases that handmade knives can occasionally have curves and twists. This company's blades, while seeming obviously hand forged, have always been straight when I received them. As to the pommel/hilt on many khukuris having pointed edges at the top and bottom, keep in mind that this model is a military weapon and the farmers probably use their models for defense as well as work. A Green Beret major taught me defensive techniques that employ all of the knife, not just the blade. I imagine that has a lot to do with the sharp parts of the handle on this militarily knife. Long blade knives are legal to carry where I live, including swords. I buy khukuris to avoid carrying my legal firearm all of the time. This model is thin and easy to carry concealed where legal to do so.I am adding to this review after receiving this knife. My review has been about the knives from this company in general. Now, a few comments about this knife. I believe people are spoiled with finely manufactured products in our era, but forget that most of those are very expensive or mass produced. My new khukuri has small seams where the brass of the pommel was folded to close and fit. They are polished smooth but show. These are finely crafted handmade products by native craftsmen still living somewhat their traditional life. Think if you will, buying real American Indian products. You've been to museums. You know they do not look like the came from a Sony or Toyota factory.

Not worth a 1/10th of advertised price.
I performed a file test on this knife and it is not hardened or tempered. The edge deformed when I tried to cut a 1/4 inch stick...yes you heard right. If you wish to own something for it's looks then by all means purchase it. For any real world application it is useless. I don't believe for a second that this is of the same class of knives used by the Ghurka's. I did not get what I paid for.

total garbage
So I've had many khukuris from Nepal, I love the real khukuri house made khukuris, this is not that, this is a cheap copy possibly made in Nepal, more likely in India. The handle has sharp corners, the blade came dull but serviceable, the sheath is the worst piece of garbage I've ever seen and the handle is cow horn not buffalo horn, it has big white streaks through it that I've never seen on a real khukuri before. Now the good part is at least the blade can be sharpened and holds an edge well, I cut down a few small trees with it after sharpening and it's still as sharp as ever. I'm going to make this a garden tool, but I would never buy a khukuri from Amazon ever again. I recommend thekhukurihouse dot com for all future purchases, I've owned many of their blades and they are cheap and good in quality. Also the sheath has a large portion that's not dyed because they had the belt hanger on the scabbard when they dyed it black, see pictures.

Excellent khukuri. This is the 5th or 6th khuk I've owned over the years and I have to say I'm impressed. It's lighter and faster than my HI 15" Ang Khola but still a mean chopper. Not as good a chopper but few knives are. The finish isn't a perfect mirror but is a great working finish. It did not come very sharp but only took about 30 minutes to get it shaving sharp using phone book and sandpaper. It has a 9" blade weighing 451g or 15.9 ounces. Paired with my Bark River Mini Canadian and a firesteel this is a perfect bushcraft rig with a LOT of self defense potential. I would gladly buy again and I may just to throw one in a bugout bag or my truck. It demolished seasoned oak without rolling an edge or batting an eye. Great little knife.

Nice looking and good for medium duty Kukri work
This is a Service no1. smaller than I would want for more than medium duty work like chopping, but it is well made and can be very good at all other knife stuff.nice and thick blade for a 9" blade Kukri and no doubt a good defense weapon if you are interested in that purpose.Full Tang of course would be better but it is what it is.In conclusion I would say that although this is a well made knife as a Kukri it would not hold up to heavy field chores so if a powerful chopper is what you want go for 10&one half or bigger, say 12" this one is too small for hard work with the rat tail tang style, bigger would be stronger.Update11-14/16 This is obviously the wrong size Kukri ,the blade is less than 9" and even though it is a ex gurkha kukri house purchase it is a 8"kukri .if this is a nine inch knife than it is not built to last.I will not be using this one to chop wood over one & a half inches.but for 38 dollars and change I'm not to upset.

Very Good buy
I have worked with horns before and the handle is great the end cap is smaller than the horn so I can see a side cut. no markings though . the knife and the smaller skinning knife came sharp much like one I got in the 1970's. other than no paperwork or markings it looks to be a very nice knife. has been a short while and this knife sharpen up nicely like the fit and finish goes great with Genuine Gurkha Kukri-Authentic 5" blade Cheetlange special Kukri-Rat tail tang Rosewood handle, leather Sheath Khukuri- Handmade in Nepal by Gurkha Kukri House - imported by R&T Trading Co. the belt loop tares easy making it unable to attach to belt. so reduction in rating.Update the belt loops on both knifes are not secured in any way for everyday carry. had to glue them on hope it works. no markings and no documentation so cant say is from EGKH or not.

Exceptional Quality!
Very pleased. Quality exceptional. Not like the Pakistani knock off's. I served with the Gurkas in 5 AB Brigade and it is just how I remember theirs to be.

These guys do amazing work. Love the blade and I’ve put it to the test! Heavy, sturdy and durable, a piece of art! I used to backpack with a buck but it will now forever be a khukuri! Thank you guys for an amazing piece!

Excellent quality. From what I can tell it is very well-made. I wouldn’t be afraid to break it.

Strong knife. Decent edge. The blade is somewhat straight...some material will still need to be removed for a "perfect blade" as the spine is sloppy. At least this one came to the right address unlike the second one which never showed and I had to fight for a refund. For the price its hit and miss.

Bad ass kukri
This is a great piece was very happy with it, came with a good sheath and the 2 smaller knives that come with kukris, all seems to be good quality, only small complaint was the edges of the handle were alittle sharp but I was able to file them down easy enough. Very happy with this order.
