Ghost Hunting for Beginners: Everything You Need to Know to Get Started (Llewellyn's For Beginners, 31)

Definitely read this book if you're interested in wanting to start out (whether by yourself and/or in a group) and don't know where to begin. I don't have another book to compare alongside this one as this was my first time reading a book on a subject like this, but I am happy with how it's written. The author does a very good job of breaking information down from the step-by-step point of starting out to how to select the proper tools and equipment for investigating to finally navigating through the paranormal community. The equipment chapters give really good insight on separating novelty tools from equipment that will actually advantage you during investigating.

Ghost hunting seems to use a lot of skills. Many skills have a chapter devoted to them. I was hoping to learn how to research the history of a property location, but there was no chapter for that.

Now that you have seen every episode of every ghost hunting-related TV show, before you Rambo up in black swat uniforms with ghost grenades and such for your first ever investigation, take pause to read this fine book. Interlaced with humor, this is a great little book written in a personal experience, no-nonsense style that made it a pleasure to read. While cutting through Hollywood’s usual ratings vs facts platform and other dizzying misconceptions of this field, for the ghost hunting beginner, start by reading this book just to clear your head of the nonsense that's out there. In that process, Rambo up with practical, useful knowledge instead. Kudos, Rich.

It was a quick read with a few good tips. I enjoyed the case snippets. It left alot to be desired with no real amazing info. What was detailed was rather out of date(2022).

I got this book just to be on the safe side of understanding what my new found business/hobby entails....everything that I am doing is correctly confirmed by this book. If you entering the world of paranormal research- get this book as a guide- it will save you a lot of unnecessary work and wasted time- unless you have time to waste. The book has lots of interesting tips and situational examples. A good read !

Just learning and want to know more about ghost hunting and about things I have seen myself such as shadow figures and voices. Wanted an easy book that I could read to find out more about this subjectt and this book fits the bill. Hope one day to get in a Paranormal Group and need all the help I can get.

Being a noob to the paranormal investigation world I found this book to be very informative and will serve as a great reference in the future. My daughter has been investigating for about a year now but has been learning from a group she belongs to. After teller her some of what I learned in this book she wanted to read it also so I bought another copy and gave it to her. Thanks Rich for sharing your knowledge

I like the way the areas were broken down in order to make it easier to understand.

I bought this hoping it might be useful for lending to new investigators. It exceeded my expectations. It's a clear, coherent and well thought out book, beautifully edited (too many books in this field are just not adequately proofread etc) and with good information and ideas. Despite being aimed at beginners, it has plenty for more experienced investigators too (I have been given some new ideas by it) and it avoids the lunatic fringe stuff, like calling everything a demon and sensibly dismisses orbs. It covers all aspects of paranormal investigation and anyone following the advice in it will not go far wrong.The effort that has gone into this book makes it a worthwhile acquisition for anyone who's interested in the paranormal field. Rich Newman knows what he is talking about and has a way of making it clear without ever sounding condescending.

Very informative. Although wrien for a US market, the information here is informative and well written

habe das buch interessiert verschlungen, da dort viele vorgehensweisen beschrieben werden plus die sachen, die zum debunken wichtig sind. sehr schade, daß es noch keine deutsche übersetzung gibt (habe es in mühevoller kleinarbeit selbst gemacht) und auch wenig bilder enthalten sind (das wäre auch noch toll gewesen, was ist eine echte erscheinung und was ist ein film / hörfehler - ok, letzteres ist in einem buch schwer möglich, aber der mann hat eine gh truppe und da wären hörbeispiele durch links nais gewesen). viele programme, die man hier benutzen soll (ok, sind auch nur empfehlungen etc.) sind tw sehr alt (ein hinweis wäre auch nett, daß man zb auf der website "neuere erforschte tools" gelistet bekommt.wissenschaftlich... ok, das ist auch so eine sache, zweifler kann man damit nicht überzeugen und jünger werden es sowieso fressen, da parawissenschaften eh keine "echten" wissenschaften sind. aber ich will hier auch keine diskussion vom zaun brechen. was man mit den infos anfängt, bleibt jedem selbst überlassen, das buch bietet nur anreize, es selbst so auszuprobieren, daß möglichst keine fehlerquellen falschinfos erzeugen.
