Vater VBVB Vintage Bomber Bass Drum Beater

Back in the day these beaters were the standard. Before rock and roll warranted a firmer felt or even plastic beater this was the solution. For feathering a kick drum or that new neo-soul muted kick this is the way to go. This one is over a cork core I believe so it isn't as hefty as some of the others out there. Great product.

I can’t believe I waited so long to try this beater. It’s the sound I’ve been searching for, the sound I’ve been hearing in my head. Warm, booming, colorful, tuneful. I’ve been playing much quieter and more melodic these days, and I was finding my regular hard felt beater to have too much punchy attack. I can now play soft grace notes and accents in a much more expressive, subtle way. I play a bass drum with no hole in the resonant head, and this beater helps me get a warm, mellow note. While it is soft, it can still hit quite hard and has a huge striking area. Probably the perfect beater for dropping “bombs” in a jazz big band. I’ve found that I can get a bit more punch out of it if I bury the beater, if I really need a downbeat to kick harder. It responds differently to different types of strokes, which is great for expressive potential.It doesn’t have the punchy attack you would need for most modern music, but if you need a soft, mellow attack from your bass drum, this beater is fantastic. At the very least, give it a try and find new ways to express yourself on your instrument.

Works great for low volume settings without mics. Gets really low in tone with mics.

Edit: I put it in my drill, filed the rod a little bit to fit in my pedal, and cut it shorter. Now it is great! A little surgery was required for me. P.S. wear eye protection when working with metal, et al.It didn't really fit in my pedal because the rod is too thick. I have a TAMA pedal and it would only insert about 1/4" and the memory locking collar ring would not slide onto the shaft. This meant I could not position the beater correctly. It was too long and unbalanced.I put it on my daughter's drum set (she has the cheapest pedal I could find on Amazon) and it fit there.What is great about this beater is it is pretty light. What is even more important is that you can feather the kick drum a lot easier than the original felt beater that my pedal came with for bop playing.But ultimately I reverted to my original beater. If the shaft was slightly more narrow to fit in my pedal I would have given it 5 stars.Maybe it is a metric vs. imperial measurement thing? I dunno...

This takes the edge off the kick drum sound. Perfect for helping control overall kit volume in a small venue!

A little expensive but you get what you pay for, however (and this is no fault of the beater) be careful using this in conjunction with a coated bass drum head, depending on the brand and head composition it'll act like sandpaper and wear away at the outer fluff until the inner round bit is showing. Could've used some foresight or research on my part, but learn from my mistake!

El sonido que se logra con el baqueton es buenísimo, me agrado desde el momento que lo soné. Agrega mucho cuerpo al sonido del bombo (a pesar de que uso un parche viejo).

Didn't fit my double pedal so I had to file it down with a rasp. Took forever. When I finally got it in, it made the drum sound like the woofy warm glow of my dreams. 5 stars.

really happy with it, completely changed the attack of the kick for more of a hip hop vibe.you gotta play off the head though, burying the beater sounds quite gross
