Simple. And the best!
Favorite potty book so far! We read it a few times a day and I ask questions like, "should she go in the potty?" and now she answers, "yes!" Its nice that its not a wordy book but gets all the major points across, it allows me to guide it a bit. The pages are different colors so its more fun than some other potty books. Also its nice the character doesnt look specifically like a boy or girl, so my daughter associates the little kid with herself.

Very cute and sparks interest in going potty
Overall: Very cute, very simple, and it worked to get our daughter interested in using the potty. It's obviously not going to get your child to use the potty overnight, but it might spark the interest that helps. Pros: Very simple drawings, not a whole lot going on in the pages except the main character needing to go potty. It's not clear if it's a boy or girl, so it can be used for either gender. There are very few words, so children won't lose interest as you read. There are some catchy parts, like "tinkle, tinkle, toot!" that my daughter says a lot when she goes to the potty. It even adds a dog and a cat going potty, so if you have pets, your child will likely enjoy it more. Cons: This isn't an instructional book, so it won't teach your child anything in terms of what to do. It's too simple at times, so you have to add your own words. For instance, there's a series of pages where the main character just sits and waits on the potty, so I have to explain that sometimes you just need to wait to go and not rush it. Overall, this is a book my daughter enjoys reading, memorized most of it after a few reads, and makes going to the potty more fun for her. Definitely recommend as a book to have with your other books.

My 2-year loved it but I think reviews depend on the parent and child.
I feel compelled to write a review because I went online to look for other potty training books so our son has a few (we bought this book and a potty over a month ago -- now we're about ready to start training!), only to find the first review I read was "DON'T BUY THIS BOOK. DON'T READ TO OTHER REVIEWS." I thought that was a bit over the top. I think the response just depends on the parents' expectations and the child's age/preferences. My son loved this book, and this was the exact type of book I was looking for (extremely simple, not many words, something that a <2 year old can easily digest without much reading or effort). The other books were way too details and had too many words -- while my son loves books and we read together several books every day, he tends to not enjoy books that have too complicated of illustrations and dense text. I honestly don't really enjoy reading books with dense text; usually I make up a story on the fly to get him engaged and learning vocabulary. So anyway, I loved the simplicity of the book. My son immediately related to the baby with the diaper, and loved going through the sequence. He immediately understood that the cat and dogs were going potty without me having to explain it. The grunting sounds were hilarious to him. My son can also get quite aggressive with page turning so I appreciated the hard pages. I gave this 4 stars because I think there is a bit of a disconnect between finally GOING potty (my son LOVED the stars and congratulations, but he was a bit confused) and going to underwear. Maybe it's because we haven't started training yet so he doesn't know what underwear is used for. He LOVES the whole entire sequence, is excitedly wanting to see the page with the stars and congratulations, only to see a page of underwear and he has no clue why. This might be Too Much Info, but I kinda wish there was a picture of the baby actually going pee or poop, or show a potty with poop. Haha probably TMI for many. But we have another book (not specifically on potty training; most of every day activities) that illustrates a baby with a soiled diaper (it has brown on the outside) and my son kept on looking at that picture -- saying "baby pooped." So the image called to him. I think images that are straightforward, simple, and can directly suggest actions are useful at this age (20-24 months). Anyway, I highly suggest this book if others have the same philosophy as me! The other book I might buy on here is a musical board book on potty training (Potty Time! Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood)

So fun and engaging!
I was looking for a board book for my 2 1/2 year old son to read while he's sitting on the potty to encourage him to sit long enough for something to happen. Like many toddlers, he's very active and doesn't like to sit in one place for very long. He also hadn't shown much of an interest in books. Enter Leslie Patricelli's Potty...oh my goodness, I'd give it 10 stars i I could. My son LOVES this book so much! It's not only encouraged him to use the potty more often, it's also awakened his interest in books in general. The book is so simple, so adorable, so fun, it just pulled him right in. He has every page memorized, and is so proud to "read" the whole book out loud on his own. he now also realizes how fun reading can be, and his regularly raiding his book collection for other things to read, rather than just building towers with his books. We're slowly progressing toward 100% potty use, and this book is a huge help! Whenever my son does his business on the potty, he gleefully shouts, "Tinkle tinkle toot! I DID IT!!" just like the baby in the book. When we first started reading the book, at the part where the baby says, "I could go in my diaper...SHOULD I go in my diaper?" my son would always respond, "Yes!" Now after a few weeks, he's saying, "No!" This book has helped my son make a huge leap in his development, and I have a blast reading it to him. What more could I ask for?

My daughter is nowhere near potty-training time, but she loves books and I wanted her to be exposed to the language and visuals ahead of time to lay the groundwork. My daughter loves the vibrant pictures with expressive faces. Images are clear, and art is bold and rich and baby-friendly. Text is simple and effective--she loves the last page that celebrates the reward of using the potty--UNDIES! There's also a page that says "Hurray! I did it!" We use that phrase now for other accomplishments, and it's a lovely link to the vocabulary of the book. Sweet and educational.

I bought this book to get my 1.5-year-old child more interested in using their potty. It's simple and a lot of fun to read together.
