Very good knife
I have one of these at work, so I bought another to use at home. Blade is very sharp, aluminum handle is rugged and easy to hold. I really like this knife.

The slide mechanism is SMOOTH. There is no click/lock on the model I purchased, in case that matters
This is my second OLFA, I'd previously purchased the auto locking, click-advanced version which I've since misplaced and wanted to give this one a shot. It performs amazing, but you do need to spin the lock to lock it down to prevent slippage. When loose to advance the blade, it is completely loose and slides effortlessly with little to no friction until you lock it up. You could easily use the full blade, a couple blades, or just one at a time if desired but if you don't lock it, obviously you might be at risk of injury or unexpected reactions. Excellent blade and I'd get it again if needed, however if my job used a lot of back and forth in and out repetitiveness, I might stick with the click-advanced version of this from a time savings of spinning the dial to lock the blade aspect.

Another excellent tool from OLFA!
I was pleased to run across this item while I was looking for something else. It's better than I expected & it appears sturdy & well designed. I think it will be a valuable part of my tools for many years. I may have to get another one, as they come from Japan & who knows if they will still be importing them in a few years. Here's a tip too, superior cutting tools need superior blades! Use these blades: https://www.amazon.com/OLFA-UltraSharp-Black-Snap-Off-Heavy-Duty/dp/B00176HQ6W/ref=sr_1_24?crid=1AHKPIBH7RVQG&keywords=OLFA+18mm+Heavy-Duty+Utility+Knife+%28MXP-L%29&qid=1696744120&sprefix=olfa+18mm+heavy-duty+utility+knife+mxp-l+%2Caps%2C861&sr=8-24 They are more expensive than most, but they are sharper & hold up better. You want the blades that are black, with silver on the sharpened edge, not the ones that are all black.

Can't describe how much I love OLFA
I have had their L-1 18mm ratchet for 2 years and love it. Once I found out OLFA made a die-cast Aluminum unit, I had to have it! The way this unit feels in your hand screams quality. It can be used for light applications to very hard applications. With that said, if you are going to use this knife under heavy load, I would suggest getting the ratchet version. You can really crank the wheel down and make sure the blade is secure. Lastly, buy the OLFA BLADES.... please. I spent $20 on another brand and cut cardboard and it was painful. I swapped back to the OLFA LBB 18mm Ultra sharp heavy duty blades for $29 and its was way better. Night a day difference. Totally worth the 9 bucks more and you get 50 blades. The OLFA blades also come in silver if you want to save a few bucks and not get the black ones. LB is the Silver Blades and LBB are the black blades.

Quality
Japanese quality. Iconic design. Tough. Good materials. Easy to use. Very sharp blade. Not too heavy. Universal blade size. Expensive when bought here. Maybe 30%-40% more than I’d expect and want to pay.

The Japanese make box cutters right!
Olfa invented the snap off blade box cutters. This model has a dial blade lock, which is really nice! You can get Kai blades that are really, REALLY sharp.

A Great Utility Knife Made Better With A Slight Modification
OLFA knives are known for being well-made, sharp utility knives and this example is no different. It is designed to be tougher than some of their other offerings. With its aluminum housing, it seems to be strong enough to handle some hard use while still being comfortable in the hand- that is, if you're right-handed. For having a nearly symmetrical design, there is no option to reverse the blade for left-handed use. This means southpaws end up with the wheel lock digging into your palm and a less secure grip. Being Left-handed myself, I took a chance on this knife mainly due to OLFA's reputation and found that in less than 5 minutes with a nail file, this utility knife could be made to accept flipping the blade over for use with the left hand. I've included a picture of the area filed down and, for such a small modification, it's a shame that OLFA doesn't offer this knife for both right and left hand use straight from the factory.

Comfortable in the hand
I work for a sign company and cut vinyl and alumicore all day long. This utility knife is comfortable in the hand and has a cushion for my index. I'd buy this all day every day over other knives.

My favorite style of 18mm OLFA utility knife
My favorite style of 18mm OLFA utility knife. Glides smoothly. Can be locked tightly (good) using screw. Feels smooth and solid (I like the heavy weight of it. It gives me better control). I used many styles of OLFA 18mm knives. This is my favorite for relatively clean jobs. (I use a plastic one for dirty and messy jobs. they are cheaper).

It deserves five stars.
It’s a nice knife, I got the one with the rolling lock like the traditional units, I don’t feel secure enough that the blade won’t slip with a slide lock. Could be wrong, but., anyways it’s a great cutter. It feels good in the hand. It’s very well-made. It’s not expensive. What could you ask for? The blade size is really great for most applications.. and you can find good quality Japanese blades on Amazon for this. They’re not too expensive.. overall five stars deserved.

Actually heavy duty
Very heavy duty case. The end hasn't bent at all where I use to have just the regular plastic shell one and the end bent in towards the blade making it hard to open. This one has been dropped a couple times and still works as it should. The blade it came with seemed to be good. Didn't notice much of a difference for longevity of blade edge compared to the regular blades. I got it on sale so definitely worth it when it goes on sale again!

Metal utility knife
Nice knife, quality construction. Only plastic piece is the blade slide. Has a nice weight in your hand. Only issues I have had are that it is very slippery and it gets lost easily since it is silver but those are easily remedied.
