Calligraphy in Ten Easy Lessons (Lettering, Calligraphy, Typography) Review: Great detailed instructional guide. - I took calligraphy for a year in art school and love the italic hand(italic chancery cursive) My 13 year old niece said her teacher talked about calligraphy and she was interested. I bought this book for her and reviewed it. The book is a gem. It shows the correct way to hold the pen, angle the alphabet, exercises to improve flow and uniformity. It’s probably the closest book to classroom instruction. Dr. John Cataldo, my instructor, was a stickler. He would practice while watching TV and became ambidextrous so he could be a better teacher for students who were left-handed. He’s author of 2 great calligraphy books. They’re out of print print but fantastic informational sources. Review: Good book very helpful - This book is quite comprehensive and starts elementary for the beginner, I would definitely recommend this to anyone trying to learn calligraphy

This Book Will Help You Write Beautifully
This is an excellent introduction to writing the Italic hand. The instructions are clear, concise, and easy to follow, it's organized very logically, and the examples are beautifully done. For the first time in my life, I like my own handwriting. In places it's somewhat doctrinaire, saying, in effect, that writing Italic must be done in a particular way. Having consulted other authors I've learned that there is more than one way to make each letter, some of which I find easier. Also, it should have been published as a spiral-bound. The book doesn't lie flat on the desk so it's awkward to work with. Those things aside, I recommend it highly.

Excellent Book!
Excellent book to jump-start your learning Italic Calligraphy -- easy to read, clear, concise instructions on materials, how to form the letters, with examples of "do's" and "don'ts." If you've been putting off for decades, like myself...learning how to write in italicized Calligraphy, get the book and don't feel intimidated! Follow the Guide. Practice, practice, and practice and before you know it, you'll see results from your "memory muscle." You can watch many videos on youtube, but the Guide will help a lot!

I love this book. It has the exact type of Calligraphy I wanted to learn. I checked it out of the library and put it to use for weeks. It is the best work out there that I tried. I highly recommend it. jnetti

Amazing book with step by step tutorials, tips and also accuracy check for each letter as we practice. It’s ideal for both left handers and right handers. This book is best for those who intend to learn basics of italic calligraphy. Worth buying for references too. Highly recommended!

A very simple and easy to learn book. It should be followed with 'Italic & Copperplate Calligraphy' by Eleanor Winters.

The book has a very practical step by step approach to learning the italic hand. It starts with the basics and some interesting background information and progressively takes you through practical tuition of the basic strokes that are the building blocks for all the letters, through to swash capitals and variations. Very detailed but easy to follow.
