Gift for not so tech savvy senior
I bought this as a gift for my mother. She's over 70, active and wants to share photos she takes. 32MB card is tiny, the frame you have to insert it in to make it a standard Scandisk card is a bit daunting, but the cable connection to the computer is helpful. It charges the battery and connects her to the photos. She loves the waterproof nature - doesn't need to worry about rain - or setting it down on a wet bench or dropping it onto wet grass. Turn the camera on and its ready to go - no need to wait for lens to deploy. She likes it better than her old digital camera.I'd recommend this for anyone who likes taking photos but doesn't want to worry about keeping the camera dry.

Sony DSC TF 1/L 16MP Digital camera fails minimum test
Sony should really be ashamed of themselves. After plugging the battery in overnight, it took 8 photographs and battery died. Not acceptable. Also, Memory chip is too small. Yes, I can purchase an extra memory chip but why not include it with your product in the first place. Two obvious defects:1) Battery included with product insufficient2) Memory chip inadequate for minimal usuage.Good quality, actually takes a very sharp photo. Item is being returned. Sorry Sony.

So far so good!
I haven't immersed it in water yet. I opened the box, charged the battery and inserted a micro SD card (separate purchase). It powered up and I put the time date in it and took a couple pictures. It seems to be in working order. I also bought the silicone sleeve/case for added protection. In addition, I cut to fit a phone screen protector to keep the screen from getting scratched.I bought this as a replacement for my Sony DSC-TX10 that is over 4 years old. My old camera worked great and I loved the pictures it took: underwater, low light and just about any situation. Why I purchased the DSC-TF1/B:I didn't like the sliding guard over the lense on the TX10, as it tended to get sand in it and grind when you opened/closed it. This camera doesn't have the sliding cover. The old camera's on/off button was prominently exposed and the camera would turn on while packed in your bag and being carried in your pocket. All the inadvertent turning on would deplete the already limited battery life. This camera's on/off button is a little more recessed and with the added silicone case/sleeve should not activate as often. The extra batteries and charger I bought for my TX10 work with this one too. Each battery gets about 200 pictures. With 4 batteries I'll get about 800 photos before worrying about charging a battery. My TX10 was dropped repeatedly onto concrete, asphalt and rocks. I lost it in the car for over a year and it was exposed to extreme heat and cold. It took a beating and started to develop cracks near the battery door and other places. Due to the cracks it was no longer waterproof. This camera seems a little more sturdy and has a small amount of rubber edging to help protect it from drops.I bought the silicone sleeve/case to help protect it and make it easier to hold while in the water. The TX10 camera was a bit slippery and hard to handle when wet.The TX10 camera was so petite that you would take pictures with your finger over the lense. This one has a definite bump so you know where to put your fingers. Also the TX10 camera would have light rays in the pictures in bright sunlight. I'll have to check that out. The lense on the TF1-B has a circular bump out that might reduce this effect.Since this is an older model the price was also more reasonable than a 2016 camera. I'm very pleased and hope this camera can last four or more years too.I'll post an update after my trip to Bermuda in September 2016.

THIS CAMERA AND COMPANY IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!
I bought this camera thinking it would be great for vacations and such. BUT I was wrong!Originally the camera seemed to be just fine, until I tried to use the "waterproof" feature. I barely took the camera under the surface of the water to take a picture and the camera crashed. The camera completely quit working all together. You could see water under the screen so I could obviously tell it had water damage. Well the camera was still under the "factory" warranty, but that's a joke just like the camera. I called it in and sent it off with all details Sony asked for along with the camera. I was given a work order and was told to check on it at eservice.sony.com. Once the technician was finished, the message read as follow on the repair website:"The estimate of $400.58 for the Sony product you have inquired about is waiting approval for the repair. To approve the estimate, please call: 866-357-6230"So I called and the representative asked if I wanted replacement with the model DSC-TF1/R valued at $150 something and I accepted. The gentleman put me on hold and came back to the phone and asked what my credit card number was, so I was thoroughly confused. He said, "Ma'am, you accepted the replacement offer, but it does require you to pay out of pocket $105."To make a long story short, Sony does not stand behind their product. I told the representative I would not pay another $105 to get a replacement camera when I simply used the "waterproof" feature it has. He said that since it has "corrosion damage" the camera cannot be repaired, but it could be replaced if I pay the $105. I sent this camera in thinking it would be repaired or replaced at no cost to me since it is under warranty. I asked to speak with a manager and I was transferred to Customer Relations where he told me the exact same thing. I told him the product should be repaired or replaced at no cost since it is still under factory warranty. He responded that the corrosion damage isn't covered under the warranty and they could not prove that the camera was barely under the surface of water. He also stated that the hand book says that the camera is waterproof up to 33 ft. and cannot be submerged for longer than 60 minutes and he could not prove that this was not done with the camera. I was completely shocked that Sony wouldn't have a better warranty system than this! My only options are to either pay $105 to get a replacement OR get the damaged camera sent back with no repairs! If you have this camera do not take it under water without further coverage because Sony will not replace it free of charge!
