iFrogz Cocoon Case for the iPad mini, Purple/Black (IPMCN-PRP)

I've looked hard for the first protective case to try on my new iPad Mini. I have had several two layer cases on my phones in the past, and they have always kept the device well protected, so I explored similar items for the mini. I chose the black version because the colors seems a bit bright for my tastes, but the black can be a bit boring. The other top contenders were the  Speck Products CandyShell Case for iPad mini - White/Slate (SPK-A1954)  products (more expensive) and  Cygnett Slate Grey Workmate Protective Case for Apple iPad Mini  (bulky and cheap industrial looking).Pluses:Does not add much bulk to the iPad mini, but enough to help it fill out my hand better.Good two layer protection at all corners.Volume buttons work well.All the cutouts are well sized.Trapezoidal shaped cutouts make for an interesting visual touch.The inner rubber layer is stiffer than on other cases I have experienced (Otterbox and knockoffs, as well as Speck). I think the added stiffness should help keep dust and grime out from under the edges, and seems is less likely to stretch out over time, becoming floppy.The outer layer is stiff plastic with a nice soft-touch finish. While it does not provide a ton of additional grip, combined with the grid pattern the grip is adequate.Improvements:The sleep/wake button is *stiff* and presses down on the button - it needs to be a bit less tight from the factory.When the mini is in the case the entire assembly feels dense and weighty. Much more so than the mini alone. I'm not sure I like this, the mini is small and light, the added density is a bit off-putting at first.Installation tips:Stretch the power button area out a bit.Separate the two layers and put the mini in the rubbery layer first, then the plastic. I could not get the mini to set in properly with the layers combined.If you have a screen protector be careful of the edges of the rubber layer, it tends to grab the edges of the screen protector and pull it away from the glass.**update 3/31/13**Discovered today while trying to FaceTime that there is no microphone opening on this case, significantly degrading outgoing audio quality. This is a significant oversight on the part of the manufacturer, and one I should have noticed earlier. The description reads "Allows access to all ports, inputs, and sensors." I have lowered my score from 4 stars to 1 and will be returning.

Very simple, yet sturdy and low profile case with a good feel. My iPad mini stays home most of the time so I don't need a front cover, just something to help me grip/hold it and still offer some protection. Most other cases I looked at were too bulky and I did not need a prop up feature. It is still low profile enough that it fits in a soft zipper case when I take it traveling.

I'm not usually a bug fan of two piece cases but this one fits very nicely. The top button stuck for the first day and would prompt my iPad to shut off, but works fine now. Other than that, I have no gripes about this case. Would highly recommend it!

If this thing cost more, I'd give it one star.However, at less than $10 a pop, they're okay. Just keep in mind that they will break and fall apart in a year or so. The hard plastic in the corner by the camera is usually the first to break apart.I bought this thing again because it was compact and provides some amount of grip to the iPad Mini. I really don't want some massive Otterbox thing on my tablet.It also provides okay drop protection, since the outside is hard plastic and the inside is soft.

i absolutely love this case, shipping came before expected which is always good. This case does justice for me now I don't worry when my 2 year old nephew uses my iPad. The good thing about it also is when it is face down against a flat surface the screen doesn't touch. The color is also awesome too. Very protective and a great deal!

Cover is a little slick. I have a griffin cas for an Ipad that has better grip. Son loves the color. I does not have a screen protector.

This is a nice case for what it is, I just wish I had gotten a case that included a stand so you could stand your tablet up.

This was perfect for using around the house but taking the pad in and out of my purse created scuff marks on the invisishield. Went ahead and bought another case that protected the front.

Writing this review after using this cover for - 3 weeks.I got this for my old iPad mini, the earlier one weathered out. I didn't wanted to invest a huge sum on a cover at this stage (as I plan to soon replace this iPad with a newer version).This product is exactly what I was looking for, my primary goal was to get something with good grip, it is a hard solid cover which I assume will give decent protection as well. Also, if you keep the iPad face down, it keeps the screen slightly above the surface, which is a well thought design.Overall, an excellent buy, worth the money (I got this for INR 290).Pictures posted for reference.
