In her first work of contemporary women’s fiction, bestselling author Kay Bratt draws on her own life experiences to create a raw, yet inescapably warm, novel about friendship and a wary heart’s unexpected capacity to love. A hungry, stray dog is the last thing Cara Butter needs. Stranded in Georgia with only her backpack and a few dwindling dollars, she already has too much baggage. Like her twin sister, Hana, who has broken Cara’s heart one too many times. After a lifetime of family troubles, and bouncing from one foster home to another, Cara decides to leave it all behind and strike out alone—on foot. Cara sets off to Florida to see the home of her literary hero, Ernest Hemingway, accompanied only by Hemi, the stray dog who proves to be the perfect travel companion. But the harrowing trip takes unexpected turns as strangers become friends who make her question everything, and Cara finds that as the journey unfolds, so does her life—in ways she could never imagine. Review: One of the best books I have ever read - This book, even though it is fiction, is a great book to read. I loved it. Very Good Story 🐾❤
This was a Very Good Story. Was Adventurous, Emotional. Clean, no vulgar language, I guess at times I don't mind if there is but would rather there not be as that's not what makes a Story Good. I'm reading a very Good series now, a book here and there as I have so many books I read the series in between a novel here and there. The series I'm talking of is about a Dog and Cat duo detective's, the Author at the first of the series was good, clean language, I think she thought her followers would like otherwise somewhat, not a lot and coming from the Dog and Cats mouth, I didn't like it and mentioned it to her on Facebook and she commented that she thought it would show more emotion of what the Animal's were feeling 🤦🏽♀️ not so. I didn't like it but hooked on the series. At the end of this story here I felt the Author left a bit of information out and maybe you will notice it, maybe not but didn't warrant not reading it, but left me wondering. I will keep this book and read again before selling it. I keep all my books in such good shape they could be sold for almost new. I bought this book in 2021 so that tells you how many I have. What drew me in to buy it was the story line has a Dog in it, more so into the Story there will be multiple Dog's in it, I Love All Animal's 🐾 especially Dog's. I wish this book had a larger print but was still able to read it but will now be hesitant to buy more books with this Author. You will not be sorry to read this Story, Very Good 🐾❤

Beautiful novel
"Wish Me Home" by Kay Bratt What a beautifully written novel. Filled with such heartbreak, Cara and Hana, are just trying to make it from job to job and even years after they have left the foster care system, which was many, many years of bad memories for both girls. The one thing they were thankful for: they always were placed together; something important for twins. But along the way each twin developed different ways of adjusting and different mannerisms. While Cara was quiet, reserved and shy she also always took half or all of the blame of things Hana did. Hana was vocally outspoken or physically would demonstrate her anger by destroying things. This general pattern carried into their adulthood. Hana got into some kind of trouble and Cara would clean up the mess and quietly take responsibility. Until one night she covers for Hana and immediately goes on the run. With limited funds, only a change of clothes and a blanket, Cara sets out destination unknown. She just wants to get away from what she is likely to be charged with thanks to Hana. Along the way a stray dog picks her up. He teaches her a lot about trust and companionship. She also meets many different individuals along the way and slowly opens up to the just enough to slowly begin to figure out that not everyone is a bad person or has bad intentions. In fact, many are selfless and just want to do whatever they can to help. When Cara finally makes it to her final destination she continues to learn from others, as she does from her dog. Her solid rock, protective, soul mate and best friend in a canine form. What started out as a heartbreaking tale for Cara and Hana soon turns into a heartwarming tale for both women in very different ways. They still have the bond of twins, but it's a healthier and separate bond. A truly wonderful novel that takes you from the past to the present via memories from Cara's point of view, "Wish Me Home" is a wonderful novel that will break your heart and warm your heart but will leave you full of love and healing by the end. Rating: 4.7 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Umm wow
Just finished this book. The writing was good, the main character had depth and the story had me actually crying over a dog at one point. The story moved along well...so what went wrong to get a 3 star rating? I really liked the book until the author wrapped up 30 chapters in an epilogue. There was a lot that happened between chapter 30 and the epilogue. And there were a few loose ends. Good book, disappointing ending.

Sad but not depressing
I almost didn't read this story because I thought it would be far too depressing.... Foster kids, poverty, mental illness are not uplifting topics. Cara has decided to walk from Georgia to Key West to see where Hemingway lived. She's leaving behind her chronically depressed and frequently in trouble twin sister Hanna. On her path she meets several truly decent people who help her in small ways. A bed to sleep in for a night or two, a shower, a meal...all small human touches that affect her immensely. The most important one is a dog that just shows up and takes her into his life. Hemi stays by her side and loves and protects her. Cara finally learns from their old former caseworker the real history of how these two girls ended up in state care and how much their caseworker fought for them. Most importantly they learned that they had been deeply loved by their mom. It's that fact that starts to change how these girls see everything. The story is quietly uplifting... improvement is slow and steady. The story sort of grows on you ..comfortable like!

There is No Place Like Home
My Review of “Wish Me Home” by Kay Bratt Kudos to Kay Bratt, Author of “Wish Me Home” for writing such an emotional, and heartwarming, sensitive and enjoyable novel. The Genres of this novel are Contemporary Fiction, Fiction, and Women’s Fiction. Kay Bratt describes her colorful characters as flawed, complex , complicated and for the most part likable. Cara and Hana are twin sisters that have been brought up in a negligent foster system for the most part. Issues such as betrayal and trust seem to be a large part of their lives. Hana seems to be the lead controlling twin, but does suffer from bouts of depression. After a traumatic situation, Cara finds herself on the road with hopes of seeing Hemingway’s home, one of her favorite authors. After her car breaks down, she is traveling with very little cash, and determination she will walk the hundreds of miles. A homeless dog is following Cara. The last thing Cara need is anything else alive to take care of, but she becomes attached and names the dog Hemi, short for Hemingway. Symbolically Cara’s physical journey turns into and emotional journey as she stumbles upon good and giving people for the most part that ask for nothing in return for their kindness. When Cara and Hana were little their one wish was to “Wish Me Home”. More than anything Cara wants a home and to be loved. Is it possible for Cara to let herself find a home and love? Is it possible for Cara to be able to make her own decisions? I appreciate that Kay Bratt brings up such significant topics in today’s society such as mental illness, depression, the foster system, adoption, and seeking professional help when it is needed. I love that the author uses the example of working with animals to get their perfect home as well. This is such a wonderful book that I highly recommend to readers of Women’s Fiction and Contemporary Fiction. This is the first novel that I have read by Kay Bratt, and I look forward to reading more of her novels.

A Great Read!
Audio version - this was my first book by this author and I am so glad I chose it. It was the relationship between human beings and dogs that drew me to it and it did not disappoint. As a lifelong lover of all animals, but in particular dogs, this book shows the healing powers of having such a loyal furry friend in your life and how enriched they can make it. It is an endearing story about Cara, her relationship with a stray dog and her estranged twin sister. The book in my opinion was written very well and flowed nicely. I listened to it over two days and always find audio brings books to life. I would definitely recommend.

Wow! I expected a simple story…not!!
This is an amazing book that will pull you along into a sea of emotions. I recall a quote from a movie “ I laughed, I cried , it became a part of me.” I suffer from mild depression bouts so the explanations hit home as well. And then the DOGS! I’m actually more a cat person but Dogs can be such a comfort as they show quiet compassion. Cats just tolerate you🙄. A quick read for me but a great one. Enjoy 😁. Thanks Kay Bratt & Amazon Kindle.

A different kind of road trip
In this touching story of a young woman's quest to overcome her difficult childhood, we hear the story of Cara and Hana's special bond, and of an adventurous voyage started in despair that led to new relationships. I hope there will be a sequel to the story! I would like to thank NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the ARC of "WISH ME HOME" by Kay Bratt.
