Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation Test, Home LH Ovulation Test Kit, 20 Ct

I bought this test only after doing much research online and looking at reviews here and on other sites. The negative reviews really almost swayed me into not trying this product; but, I researched more and then closely looked at exactly what the negative reviews were complaining about. So, I bought it, used it, loved it, waiting to see if this month is my BFP. Here's a rundown of this ovulation kit and here's hoping that I can answer some of the questions and concerns that others might have that are considering this product. This information is also available on the website, and in the instructions. This kit is designed to test over a number of days. In this way, it will catch the rise in estrogen levels that precede the LH surge (ovulation). A blank circle is low fertility. A flashing smiley face is high fertility. This means that the meter is showing a rise in estrogen levels in your urine. Most women will have 2 days of flashing smiley faces before the peak fertility is reached. Peak fertility is a smiley face. Once peak is reached, the meter shows the result for 48 hours, which is a reminder to you that your best chance to conceive is the next 48 hours. Now, a lot of confusion seems to center around the flashing smiley. Generally, most women will see this for 2 days before peak fertility. That's a general statement. Each of us is different and unique and your result may be different. If you get a flashing smiley face for more that 9 days, then there are a couple of things to consider. One: did you start testing too early? If you test too early, estrogen is the leader of the pack for the time around your period and testing too early will pick up that higher estrogen level. There is a clear chart of when to test. It will also line up with any ovulation/fertility app or fertility prediction chart. Testing too early won't give you a headstart, it'll give you a headache. If you find that you are testing during that time frame and NOT seeing LH surges, then you would want to talk to your doctor. Two: we don't always ovulate every cycle! I know that's the last thing we want to hear when we are peeing on a stick, taking temps, performing midnight fertility dances under the full moon and so on; but, it's true. Third: sometimes the LH surge is so small that the meter can't pick it up. Sometimes the meter will go from LOW to PEAK from one day to the next. This typically means that you started testing too late for the meter to catch the high fertility days and it only caught the LH surge. Next cycle, start at the recommended cycle day to begin testing and this should give you the low-high-peak progression that you are looking for. Once that static smiley face is reached, your LH surge has been detected and you are at your highest chance of conception. The meter will show that smiley face for 48 hours as a reminder to you that you are at peak fertility. Once the smiley face goes away, the fertile window has closed. You CAN'T test with the meter after peak fertility is detected. Well, you can think that you are. You can throw a test strip in there, not look to see the symbol that says "ready to test" and proceed to test tap water, dr pepper, sam adams, kool aid or whatever you feel like testing and the meter will still show peak fertility because it ISN'T ACTUALLY TESTING. If you want to test again after peak fertility has gone (that means the display is blank and you get the new cycle symbol and the ready to test symbol when you insert the stick) then, and only then, can you test again. I don't know why you would need to test again, but if you absolutely feel the need to, you could. But, chances are, your ovulation is long past. I saw a couple of posts where this test kit was compared to wondfo or other test strips. Those test strips can be pretty tricky to read. Just because you have two lines there, that doesn't mean you have an LH surge. For those types of tests, the test line must be as dark as or darker than the control line. If you prefer to use a lot of sticks, those would be your best economical strips to use. I would recommend that you place them in a notebook or on a notepad with the cycle day and time of test, glued in place, and watch the progression. That will show you how best to look for the dark line that tells you that your LH surge is on its way. But, those strips can make you want to tear out your hair if you don't do that, because it's really hard to catch the pattern if you don't save the strips. I used those for several months. They are messy and difficult to read. The clearblue test is easy and mess-free. I also hear (read) a lot of complaints about the price, and this one confuses me. Yes, it's about $40, but it should last 1-2 cycles (it might make me 3) and this cost is far less than the cost of an infant when you figure in medical costs, clothing, diapers, etc. It's a good test. It really works. I got 2 days of low, 2 days of high and then peak. I highly recommend it. But, read ALL the instructions and begin testing on the day that they recommend, or you might find yourself frustrated and confused. It is different that most of the other OPK out there, and I wonder if that causes a lot of the confusion.

These work fantastically if you know how they work. It's a bit of a learning curve, so here's some important things to know (you're gonna have to think back to your grade school science labs) Let me save you from what I had to go through to learn how these darn things worked lol: -Your first test is always going to be negative because you're establishing a baseline. The test detects CHANGES from the norm. In grade school science lab terms, your first test is your control. You're telling the test "hey! This is what's normal for me" so that it can properly alert you when things start rising. This is a good thing because we're all different. You could collect in a cup, get your first test and be negative, then immediately use another strip in the same sample and get a high, but this NEVER ends up working for me right, so I wouldn't recommend doing that. Just test early. -when you get a blinking smiley face, it will always get a blinky smiley face till it detects a CHANGE. THAT'S why other reviewers continue getting blinking smiley faces when they try it in something other than their own urine. Also, if you miss peak, you still continue to get a blinking smiley. That's why the directions say to stop after so many days AND that it's okay to test multiple times a day once you get this result. -Once you get peak, the result will stay in the window for 48 hours no matter what you do. So to continue testing, you'd need a different tester. But honestly you can just stop at this point (which is what I yell at myself every time). -Test EARLY. My biggest issue with these continues to be testing too late and missing the point where my levels change enough to change the face from blinking to solid. I'm working on this haha. -These detect CHANGES in your levels. They work a little differently from the analog test strips that show lines. -Read the instructions VERY carefully. When I finally figured out how these worked, I was angry that it wasn't spelled out explicitly in the instructions, but it IS if you actually read and not skim. (Which skim I did, bad me.) -Unlike analog test strips where you test in the afternoon, you use these like a pregnancy test: first morning urine. Once you get a high fertility result, you can start testing morning AND afternoon. (I'm yelling at myself to remember to do the afternoon part too cuz I'm bad at that.) Hope this helps! I have gotten preggo with these as long as I used them properly and tested early.

We'd been trying for baby number two for 6 months with no luck. This was especially frustrating given I'd got pregnant straight away with our first. I was worried about my age and wanted some reassurance that I was ovulating, but I'd been put off ovulation predictor kits - this one because of the price and others because it sounded so open to interpretation to have to decide whether the line was dark enough or not to constitute a positive test. But after 6 months with no luck I decided to splash out on the clear blue test thinking was the price really so high to pay to maximise the chance of a baby? I was initially going to buy the standard clear blue ovulation test, but then saw the dual hormone one was on sale for only a couple of pounds extra - as it claimed to identify double the number of fertile days I thought it was worth the extra cost. The test is really easy to use. You insert a test strip into the electronic reader, wait for the right symbol to appear and then either hold it in your urine stream or dip it in a sample you've collected. A few minutes later you get your very clear digital result. I started testing on day 9 of my cycle and got the low fertility result for three days, then on day four of testing I got the flashing high fertility result. I got this for three days in total and then on day 7 of testing I got the peak fertility result. It was almost as exciting as getting a positive pregnancy test!! We made sure we did the deed on all of the 5 fertile days the test identified. Two weeks after I got my peak fertility result I did a pregnancy test and it was positive!! I am so pleased with this ovulation kit. A few points worth noting: It says if your cycle varies in length to use your last cycle to guide you when deciding which day to start testing. My cycle usually varies between 27 and 30 days, but last time was 35 days. So if I'd followed the advice in the pack I wouldn't have started testing until much later and I would have possibly missed my fertile days. My advice is to start testing based on your average cycle, especially if your last cycle was out of the ordinary like mine. You can always buy another pack with extra test strips in if you end up testing too early. I've seen a few criticisms that this test always gives a low fertility result the first time you test. However, when you think about it this is because it's such an intelligent test. Hormone levels vary from woman to woman, and the first test is about seeing what your own personal normal levels are. This is so the test knows what a peak is for you personally. I've also seen a few people criticise it because they got more than two days of the flashing high fertility result, when the pack advises you get two days of these followed by two days of peak fertility. However, the leaflet in the pack is very clear that many women will get more than two days of high fertility results, with 66% getting between 0 and 4 days of high fertility before getting their peak fertility result. It is also clear that about 8% of women will not get a peak fertility result after getting high fertility results for a week or more. So I think the pack is very clear that the results will vary from woman to woman. I've also seen criticism that you can't carry on testing after getting the peak fertility result. But really, what would be the point? The test is clear that it is for detecting the hormone surge that indicates ovulation is likely to be imminent - it does not claim to be able to confirm that ovulation has actually taken place. The only criticism I can think of for this test is that you can't buy replacement strips for future months and carry on using the same holder. This would make further months use much cheaper, but I guess that's why they do it! Thankfully it worked so well for me that I don't need to worry about this!

I will start by saying I am in the 1% that finally got the solid smiley after 10 DAYS of flashing smileys! The kit says you can stop testing after 9 days of flashing smileys cause you most likely won't get your solid, well i'm so glad i didn't stop!! I was pregnant with our first and then breastfed for a year so I didn't have a period for almost 2 years. Once we decided to try for #2 I quit breastfeeding and I didn't get my period for another 7 weeks... once I got my period i decided to give this kit a try cause I'm almost 35 so we want it to happen asap. I based what day to start testing on what my cycles were in the past, which from what i remember ranged from 28 to 32 days... so I just started on day 8 of my cycle just to be safe... the first 2 days i got the empty circle then on the 3rd day I got a flashing smiley and was excited! Well.... then I got a flashing smiley for the next 9 days (10 days of flashing smileys!!) ugh!! I was getting discouraged and frustrated and worried I wasn't ovulating!! I decided since i didn't know for sure what was going on with my cycle length since it had been 2 years, I might as well just keep testing just in case. Also, the day of the 10th flashing smiley I was feeling mild cramps all day, and I still had a lot of egg white CF so I felt hopeful that it was still going to happen, and also it looked like the line on the stick was a tiny bit darker than the prior days.....wellllll SOOO glad i kept testing cause I FINALLY got the solid smiley! When I put this info in my Ovia app it pushed my fertile window about 4 days ahead, which is huge when TTC!! So if i wasn't using this kit, the app would have been off (of course not knowing my cycle length yet didn't help!) Overall I only had one test stick that gave me the error code with the book but it said I could still reuse the stick, that day I held my pee for 4 hours in the afternoon and tested again with a new stick just to be sure... which by the way, 4 hours!!? I drink a lot of water so that was horrible. Other than the day i got the error, I only tested with my FMU. I wish this kit was a little cheaper, but heck if it helps me get prego sooner than it's worth it! Bottom line, every woman is different, every cycle is different! Stay positive and keep testing! I feel like ovulation sticks (of any kind) are a must if you want to get pregnant right away! I mean why not do everything you can to increase your chances!! *baby dust*

I have really enjoyed using these ovulation sticks. It’s my first time with them. I have 7 kids and was ready to conceive again. Being that I’m 38, I didn’t want to waste time. I’ve used this along with the premom sticks as well as observing my CM. I definitely got to the empty circle for a few days before I started getting the flashing smiley face and lastly, the steady one. It is easy to use and it helps in confirming what the OPK & CM are saying. I also got a second box (for the sticks) but I was still able to use the first test reader FYI. Overall, very pleased with it!

My husband and I began trying to conceive last month. As I turned 34 in September, I wanted to become pregnant ASAP. With our first child, I just stopped birth control and didn't worry about timing. I got pregnant the first month. That was 5 years ago and I was worried that it wouldn't be so easy this time. Now, I will admit that I did not follow the instructions to the letter. I was worried about missing my fertile window, so I began testing on the last day of my period, which is a few days earlier than they suggest in the directions. I got negatives for the first 3-4 days, then I started getting flashing smileys. We had sex on a Tues, then Thurs(days 7 and 9),and skipped a few days because we were tired and not getting along. I continued to get flashing smileys into the next week. We had sex on Mon night(actually early Tues A.M., day 13/14). I think I ovulated on Wed, still getting the flashing smileys. I started feeling pregnancy symptoms on Thurs (day16). All told, I had 12 "high fertile" days. It never pinpointed ovulation. Luckily, I was keeping track of my days with an app on my phone. I continued to feel symptoms for 2 weeks after. My period was due today, so I took 3 tests: 2 were (+) and 1 was (-). I still was able to get pregnant but I can't say this test helped very much. I will say that if I hadn't turned out to be pregnant, I was going to give this test another try. It is easy to use and read. It's much better than those generic tests where you have to determine how light/dark the lines are. Update: I miscarried in December and we started trying to conceive again at the beginning of February. I was using these tests again, along with another brand of OPK (Easy@Home). The first month, I never got a clear positive result from either test and, again, had many High Fertile (flashing smileys) on the Clear Blue. I followed the directions exactly this time around. I then started testing in the afternoon/evening because I read that the first morning urine is not really the best for detecting the ovulation surge. I was getting the same thing: a two or three days of Negatives followed by many days of High Fertile on the Clear Blue. I decided to start taking my basal body temperature every morning and switched to a less expensive brand of OPK in order to determine if I actually was ovulating and when. I saved a few Clear Blue and Easy@Home tests to compare if I ever did get a positive result with the new brand. I got a positive yesterday evening but forgot to save my urine. I decided to go ahead and test again, this morning, and used all three tests. All three were positve! It's only day 6 of my cycle, so it's pretty early to be ovulating and if I am an early ovulator then maybe I just missed it before (but I am pretty sure I tested this early in the past) or maybe I wasn't ovulating at all during those months. It's also possible that my hormones were still out of whack from the miscarriage. I have changed my original rating from 3 to 4 stars. Since these tests are more expensive and I am becoming more comfortable with the other test strips, I may not be purchasing these in the future. I haven't decided yet and I'm hoping I won't need to test anymore. Update: I did become pregnant from that cycle.

SO much better than the average 2 line ovulation tests. I’ve been TTC for a year and a half, and these are the best ovulation tests I’ve used so far (and I’ve used a lot, lol) Digital read is so clear - never questioning if the lines “darkest” or not, because it tells you! & the app keeps track of it all for you!!!

Reliable but Weirdly Vague and Dishonest About It's "Advanced" and Detailed Results (Best as a Backup to More Detailed Apps) I’ve been using the Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation Test with its companion phone app, and my feelings are very mixed. It's almost funny how silly it is that this testing kit can do so much yet show us so little. On the plus side, the product is aesthetically pleasing, very user‑friendly, and the app interface is clean and uncluttered. Clearblue also has strong brand recognition and a reputation for reliability, and I *do* feel I can trust the results it gives me. Another big selling point is that it tests for two fertility hormones (LH and estrogen) instead of just LH, which is why I chose it over brands like Easy@Home and PreMom. BUT! The problem is, you won't ever see that "data." The way Clearblue presents those results is, in my opinion, the main flaw. Even though it’s detecting more hormones, the only feedback you actually see is: - Low fertility – empty circle - High fertility – flashing smiley - Peak fertility – solid smiley That’s it. You don’t see any hormone levels, don't see the estrogen or LH levels it tracks, don't see surges, spikes, trends, or numbers. Just flashing symbols you enter into a calendar that then tells you when you should sleep together to procreate. I spent a long time going through the instructions and tutorials because I assumed I HAD to be missing something! When I finally asked the in‑app chatbot, it compared it to a GPS: "it tells you to when to “turn left” without explaining why or what’s going on behind the scenes." That’s exactly how it feels – you’re told what to do, but you’re not allowed to understand why or what’s happening with your own body. I also assumed that once I downloaded the app, I’d be able to sync more detailed info/data to my phone and see what was happening with my hormones over time. Instead, the app mainly has you log the icons you see (again: empty circle, flashing smiley, solid smiley) and allows you to log some basic notes and period symptoms. It does not tell you what said symptoms might mean, or let you see actual hormone values or a more nuanced picture of your cycle. Because of that, I think this product is probably best suited to people who are young, generally healthy, and just starting to try for a baby, and/or who don’t feel the need to dig into details like hormone surges vs. peaks, exact LH levels, or long‑term patterns. For basic, simple, early pregnancy planning, it can be helpful: - It can point you toward good days to try to conceive - It can also help you identify lower‑fertility days if you’re trying to avoid pregnancy (though I would still be cautious relying on it as contraception alone) - Clearblue also claims it can identify two more fertile days than standard LH tests with a fixed 25 mIU/mL threshold. That all sounds great, and may very well be true, but the app doesn’t clearly explain how it does this, and again, you don’t see the underlying data. In contrast, I strongly prefer apps like PreMom and Easy@Home for in‑depth fertility tracking. Their apps (both free and paid versions): - Show you actual numbers for LH (and PDG, where applicable) - Let you clearly see surges versus peaks and overall trends - Provide insight and advice based on your patterns - Have an AI chatbot that explains anything you need it to about your results - Allow you to track more symptoms, side effects, and medications than ClearBlue - Give you data you can share with a doctor later if you run into fertility concerns, or just want a more complete record Because of all this, my recommendation is: If you can afford it, use Clearblue as a secondary system, not your only tracker Let Clearblue help confirm and identify additional fertile days Use PreMom, Easy@Home, or a similar/better/fancier (if you can afford it!) detailed app as your primary source of information, insight, and long‑term tracking. **Bottom line:** Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation Test Kit may be "advanced" but it's not so clear as to how. It's pros are that it's easy to use, looks nice, and I do trust its results. But cons are it feels oddly and unnecessarily secretive about the extra hormone data it’s collecting, whilst touting how special it is for being able to collect and track it. Even the back of the box shows an "example" chart with a sample LH & Estrogen peak during a cycle - yet I guarantee you will never see any such chart or results when you enter the circle or smiley faces into the app/tracker. You know it’s measuring more, but you never get to see any of it. For me, it makes the most sense as a backup tool alongside a more detailed and transparent app - not as my main way of tracking fertility.

As described, new and effective

I bought a new set of this kit since I ran out of the sticks midway. It was blinking lights on the old device before I tested with the new one on the same day, which weirdly shows the empty circle. I tested again today (2 days after my first comparison) with the previous device AND the new device from the newly bought kit, both with the new sticks that comes on my new kit + using same cup of urine for both. It returns to a different result. The previous device was bought from Boots UK while the new one are from Amazon US, so I don’t know if they have different device quality. Considering this set is very expensive I’m really disappointed how it can give me different result. It’s very confusing and sad for me who’s trying to conceive after a devastating ectopic pregnancy loss.
