After much studying I decided to go for the R6 Pro
This is my first DAP and I couldn't be happier, great sound , great build quality , and for a beginner to the DAP world such an easy device to use.The only niggle I have, and I am really splitting hairs, is the screen display can be a little laggy but I'm happy to live with that.Outstanding device especially at this price point.

Great Device
Beautifully designed and built; this really is a premium Android player and simply the best high res audio device I've tried (and that includes players in the same price range made by A&K, Plenue, iBasso and Fiio). One of the major bonuses is the ability of the database to handle more than 32,000 songs - I have loaded over 70,000 onto the R6 Pro without any major issues.Battery life seems good - with over 10 hrs continual playback after my first full charge.Connectivity is great (Wifi, Bluetooth, line out, balanced and standard). Software is great. The 10 band Graphic EQ is excellent, and the output levels of the inbuilt amp gives excellent volume even over BT. The search function is extremely fast and it only took the device less than 15mins to scan the media card for the 70,000+ songs I loaded onto it. All tag info was displayed correctly. I've been using the player for a week now and not had any issues with files that could not be read / played or displayed. Boot time is acceptable fast and, unlike other devices, you don't have to wait for a re-scan of the microSD card before it plays media on it.The only reasons I've not given it 5 stars:1. there's only one custom EQ setting - it would be REALLY useful to be able to create and save different Custom EQ settings, for different headphones / outputs. The in-built EQ presets are of no use, in my opinion2. although the software can load a large database of songs (unlimited?), the scrolling in Album and Artist views struggles and, whilst not unusable, is very jerky and slow. I'm sure this could be a simple software fix especially given that the device appears to use a fixed database. The scrolling in the Title menu is extremely smooth, strangely.3. as this is an Android device, but primarily a Music player, it would be great to have the option for the Hiby software to load on boot and automatically continue playing. These are relatively small gripes about what is a really excellent device and will be my primary music player from now on.The bonus of it being an Android device and therefore being able to load Spotify, Tidal etc., and also being able to use the device as a DAC, access a NAS etc. etc. makes me happily recommend this player very highly.UPDATE: After using the device every day for 2 months I have had to stop using the HiBy 'built-in' software as it is too 'laggy' and am instead using "doubleTwist". This app is the best I have found at handling a large database smoothly. It's not perfect but gets round some of the minor issues I had with scrolling though a large collection of artist or albums using the HiBy app. DoubleTwist also 'shuffle-plays' a very large database of songs in an instant, the search function is super fast and the ability to edit the metadata is very useful. The downside is that the EQ settings could be more precise and there doesn't seem to be a simple way of checking the Album name for a track. The HiBy player is still scratch free (despite not being in a protective cover) and works great. iT's worth knowing I never get more than about 8-9 hours battery life out of the player, which can be an issue (especially when I go on a long haul flight and need to factor in the travelling to & from the airport plus too in departures etc. etc..).

Excellent product
The sound from this machine is unreal. Better than Sony by far. I bought it straight from HiBy. No problems and a great price too.

Poor quality
I returned mine to Amazon. It only charged to 72% and it didn't provide me with an option to enter passwords to access WiFi.

Great device that looks the part and performs well.
Initial impressions are favourable. It's a very solid and weighty device that has a great screen and feels good to hold - the stainless steel construction shouts quality.I had a 400gb micro SD card full of FLAC music and it worked in the Hiby straight away without issue. The sound is as good as I'd expect and certainly compares favourably with some much more expensive players I've owned. So far so good.

To Find a better player than this, you will have to spend $1500, or more...
I don’t write a lot of reviews. A product really has to really impress me to motivate me to spend the time to write a proper review. The Hiby R6 Pro really impressed me, on many levels.Who is Hiby?Hiby is not a very well known brand, In fact, many may have not heard of them. Hiby started as a Chinese software developer used by many of the top Dap manufacturers. They solve their most difficult coding issues as well developing their own software such as Hiby Music and Mage Sound Eight Ball (MSEB). They decided to become a hardware manufacturer in 2017 with the R3 and R6 DAP players. Both were very well reviewed and received by the marketplace. The R6 Pro is their new flagship model. Hiby doesn’t seem to spend much on marketing in North America-lol- but they sure came out with a powerhouse DAP player. Background: Here is a quick bit of background on me: I have been an audiophile for over 30 years. I have been heavily into portable HD audio for 4 years. My Hiby R6 Pro is the 7th DAP player I have owned.I currently use three DAP’s frequently: An Astell & kern Kann, a Hiby R6, and my new Hiby R6 Pro, which I have had for a month. For headphones I also frequent 3 pairs: Campfire Audio Cascades- (phenomenal), Campfire Audio Polaris (hybrid iem’s), and Custom Noble Kaiser 10’s. I tested the Pro with each headphone and against my other DAP’s.I listen to FLAC files and 24 bit music, no MP3’s. I also listen to mostly studio recorded music, but, approx.. 25% of the music I listen to is live/concerts - both flac and 24 bit. I listen to Tidal in Hifi.My sound preference is: I love strong bass, a wide soundstage with three dimensional imagery and detail throughout the sound spectrum. I like sparkling highs without too much sibilance, so that I can listen to for prolonged periods.I am a professional type guy. I am not so rich that I can buy any high-end component that I want. I also want to remain married. I buy the best I possibly can, for the best price possible. I plan out carefully what my next piece of HD audio bliss will be…. I, like many other everyday audiophiles, save my money, do my research, listen to lots of different equipment, and make my purchases carefully and thoughtfully- with the idea of owning high quality gear for a long time. Hardware that hopefully, every time I listen to it, that I make little quiet ”wows” and congratulate myself on my excellent choices. That is why I wrote this review: to help my fellow audiophiles out there get the absolute best music player they can for their hard earned money. A DAP player that they will be happy with for a long time.In May of 2018, I decided to look for a high quality player that was smaller than my A&K Kann, for the gym and as an alternate player. I wanted something I could also watch movies on and download some apps. After much research I settled on the Hiby R6. This was a very good decision, as the R6 is an amazing sounding, well built, fast player with everything I was looking for.Fast forward to Feb 2019, when I started to see reviews for the new R6 Pro. Great reviews… Huge boost in power, 4.4mm balanced jack, Gorilla Glass, lower impedance, new wiring architecture amongst other improvements. After a couple of months of salivating, I decided to spend the money and upgrade to the R6 Pro. I am very glad I did. What makes The R6 Pro so special?Power, Build Quality, Sound Quality, Speed/Software, Screen quality, Connectivity- The R6 Pro beats it’s competition in all of these categories.Who would I call competitors? The Astell and Kern A&Norma SR15The Astell and Kern KannThe Fiio X7iiThe iBasso DX200Sony NW-WM1A.The Player:I won’t repeat a bunch of specs and jargon- you can go to the professional reviewers or the Hiby website for that.. I will discuss more my impressions on different aspects/ features of the player on its own merits, as well as against competitors.Build Quality is crazy good. Surgical quality stainless steel case that has been brushed so smooth you want to touch it to your cheek ( I did..) The unit is very solid and heavy, and oozes quality. Curved edged Gorilla Glass screen with tight, beveled edges.. All the buttons fit tight. The color coded power light is a nice touch- a different color for the sampling level of the music you are listening to (blue, green, white- red for charging/ data transfer. I really like the new Clear silicone case. It shows off the beauty of the unit much better than the old matte grey case that came with the R6. The instruction book is more a “quick start guide” and could be much better- this is similar to all of the other DAP makers. Wouldn’t it be great if DAP makers could put comprehensive books on how to fully enjoy and get the most from their high end audio player? Maybe someday. It comes in a fancy box with very high quality cords. Hiby already attaching the front and rear screen protectors and providing extra protectors is a nice touch. I do wish that they were made of high quality glass, so as to make the player look better longer. This unit just plain screams high quality. It reminds me a bit of the Solex unit from the James Bond movie, The Man with the Golden Gun.Power- Holy Crap!!! This player has serious balls!! It out-powers my Astell & Kern Kann without even breaking a sweat- and the Kann is known for its big power. And, it is beautiful clean power. What do I mean by serious balls? On high gain, with either of my iem’s-I have to turn it down to 30!!! 3/10! With my full size Campfire Audio Cascade’s – Anything above 40 is super loud… and I listen fairly loud. The presence that is provided by this little DAP is really quite incredible.. Does not matter which headphones I try with them- even thirsty planar headphones showed details I have been unable to hear before without an external amp. It blew right past my Fiio X7ii with the big amp, Like Paul Walker beating a Prius! No matter which headphone or ear bud I ran- The Pro made them shine. In fact, the Pro made me fall in love all over again with my Campfire Audio Polaris’.Sound Quality- We all know that sound interpretation is subjective, so, here is my opinion…• Sound Summary: This player has a beautiful, large detailed sound. The soundstage is very wide, large and tall. The sound is definitely more dynamic and larger than the R6. The new ES9028Q2M X2 chip set is a true step up. The detail and separation are outstanding. Vocals and any woodwinds or acoustic guitar have more texture and realism. The bass is deeper and very tight. The highs are airier, more ethereal, yet palpable. Overall you are much better able to interpret where each instrument is in its physical position in the studio/stage.A couple of items worth mentioning: MSEB Mage Sound Eight Ball is really cool. I am not an EQ kind of guy, but somehow, this is different. Like an EQ, you adjust different algorythmic bands to alter the sound. It uses terms like Female Overtones, Overall temperature, Note thickness and Sibilance to describe differentaudio elements. I made a custom setting for each headphone/ iem that I use. I t really brings out the strengths of whatever hardware you are attaching to listen to the R6 Pro.The other item is Hiby Music. It works quite well. It is responsive, quick and fairly intuitive. The R6 Pro allows for bit perfect use of third party audio apps- this is big.My Astell & Kern Kann has a smoother, slightly less detailed sound. Still- very very good. A bit more “processed”. My R6 Pro sounds to me, more like what they meant the sound to be like in the studio- as if you cleaned the windows, allowing extra light in. The build quality on both is very good. Both are heavy and well built. The Hiby wins in another category: It is a full android device, allowing for video and hundreds of apps, etc. The Kann is a Dap, with streaming available for 3 services: Tidal, Moov and GrooverFiio X7ii- Sound wise, the Pro is one full step up from the Fiio X7ii sound wise. Build quality is much better on the Hiby. The power cannot compete and the imaging and soundstage are much wider and more defined. I have read in a couple of other reviews about this DAP having more background noise than the R6. This may be true in the specs, but, I really listened for this, but could not hear any additional noise, whichever the headphone used. The floor is very quiet.Hiby also managed to solve their impedence issues that some headphones had with the R6. Between this and the increased power, you can confidently run any headphone with these.Speed- this player is fast. Industry leading fast. Processor speed is excellent with the two Snapdragon chips. It only takes 20 seconds to boot up the player from zero- that is 50 % faster than the R6- thanks Android 8.1I really tried to put the Pro through it’s paces while loading my new 512gb Samsung Select micro Sd card with music. All at the same time, I loaded two separate 24 bit music files from different sources, whilst playing 24 bit music off the same drive. The r6 Pro accomplished this, making it look easy!!. I even changed the track I was listening to, with no delay at all! Changing formats, switching to tidal, switching drives- all were accomplished immediately- I was very impressed. My Astell & Kern Kann takes a full 4 seconds to transition to a 24 bit track from a regular flac file, on the same drive. The Hiby R6 Pro is a true speedster.Connectivity- Whether it is the dual band wifi, or the Bluetooth 4.2 with Apt-x and LDAC- this player has strong, fast connectivity. I have no problem running tidal in my back yard with my JBL Xtreme Bluetooth speaker from my inside wifi.. Pairing was easy and quick, for both wifi and Bluetooth devices.Tidal works really well on this device, and you can even download tracks for off-line listening- you can’t do that with a Kann. The change to a 4.4 balanced connector from the 2.5mm originally did not thrill me, initially. All of my headphones use 2.5mm balanced. Boy, was I wrong! Then I plugged a 4.4 mm adaptor into the Pro… So much more sturdy than the 2.5mm. More stability, more surface area for contact, plus a strong, snug fit- this was a hugely positive upgrade. The 2.5mm connectors are so small and delicate- definitely a weak link that has been improved. Common sense would dictate that a higher quality connection would more robust, not be more Fragile…I think we will see more manufacturers change to the 4.4mm over the next year or two. Charging/battery times seem to be as promised. The screen: I am very happy with the screen quality of the unit. Very sharp and vibrant- great blacks and strong whites. I watched Thor Ragnarok and The Big Blue on it with VLC media player- Great colors and smooth play. The screen looked great. I purposely watched a newer and an older movie to see how it performed with both, which was excellent.Summary: In my opinion, The R6 Pro is easily the best mid-price DAP player on the market today. Let’s call mid-price $600-$1200.To find a better player than the R6 Pro, you would have to spend $1500 or more. I say this after doing a lot of research on many players, both online and in person. You will not regret purchasing one of these- thanks for reading.

Best bang for your buck!
Wonderful hi resolution audio player. With a good set of headphones(I prefer a wired set vs wireless), you can easily get lost in your music. It gives you every musical note and nuance and is very enjoyable to listen to. Well worth the price point given the audio quality and intuitive ui along with the latest android software built in. I mainly use this to stream Amazon Music and am so far very pleased with the results. I actually payed $100 more before the price reduction at the time of this review. No regrets with this purchase!

Dismal unforgiving battery
Right too it!The battery guys..... SMDH! For such a hefty well constructed beauty, this beauty. I literally just went through 10% battery just doing settings. All I can think of is how it will be in 9-12 months with some wear, and elements. The screen.... it’s as you’ve read. It’s responsive and accurate to the touch. Not once had it locked up in 48 hrs and I’ve been using it.The 4.4 is apparently the way to go for better More powerful sound. Well why not include an adapter? It gets warm! Just normal use... if it’s on, it’s giving off some heat.A lock button would be nice... but not a deal breaker.I’m very familiar with Android. This is 8.1 but it’s pretty good. ZERO complaints....I’m sorry for the price I just cannot get past this battery.

Great if you don't use streaming services
Good product, very powerful but the equalizer that is bundled with the HiFi software only applies to the music playing through the software. In other words, if you play music through Spotify or other service, you can only equalize through the native equalizer which is meager. Returned it.
