A must have for hollow form wood turning
I am VERY picky about tools and this one passes all my expectations. It is just perfect for reaching into wood turnings that have a significant under cut. Strong, thick steel so I get very little vibration. The large carbide cutter helps me make smooth insides of hollow forms - easier than with the smaller cutters that seem to bump over ridges. The flats make it easy to keep the tool level and avoid it turning over in your hands. Never have the cured part on the tool rest. You will find that near the top of the turning, you may need to have the tool rest further away that you would with a regular straight tool - the point is to keep the tool flat on the tool rest and you’ll get use to it.Note that the tool is square so you’ll need to make two half handles with square sided routes in each half so that the two half sides encase the square tool for glue up. That is, don’t make the handle round and expect to drill a round hole for the tool insert. You can turn the handle round after routing out the space for the tool to be inserted.

Nice, well machined tools.
I had the rest of the simple wood turning tools. Very nice product, a little pricey, but no sharpening makes up it.

Great hollowing tool!
I like the hollowing tool because of the flat bottom on the bar. It allows you to focus on the getting the tool on center or close to center to hollow out the work to be done.

It hollows, but it will beat you up
The tool has a plate finish which flakes off with use. More importantly, if you want a hollowing tool, this isn’t the best option, not remotely. The more cutting surface hitting the wood, the harder it is to control the tool. This tool’s cutter is very large. So any hollowing you do with it will be a very bumpy ride. It’ll wear you out quickly, tons of chatter/vibration. I have moved on to big-boy hollowers that use HSS cutters, John Jordan’s stuff in particular.Small carbide hollowers are great for small pieces. But anything bigger than those mini tools and you’re in for a fight and some sore muscles.

Bought it and finally needed to use it and very disappointed all around
Wouldn't work on Ash and feels as though it hadn't been sharpened much. Curves and contours fight you all the way. Seems to need a special rest to allow it to hollow as the handle shape gets in the way and only leaves a small cutting surface that is usable and tool fitted with a wooden handle hard to stabilize on my rest. I'm going to sharpen it and hope that helps but it will not make me feel much better. Over-priced, bare paper weight so far.UPDATE: 1-2023. I've tried to sharpen it but still can't get a good edge. Still feels like it was never manufactured to be sharp. I'll try a more aggressive sharpening at the expense of my diamond sharpeners. Overall, still is just an expensive paperweight.
