Usually you can get a map dialed in to avoid any compromises between power and mileage. The MS3 allows several forms of map switching; you'll want to check the documentation under "Table switching and blending" for details. Common uses for table switching would be a race gas vs pump gas switch, mufflers vs open headers, or other times when there's a change in engine or fuel setup.

Q: Is this kind of like pnp, minus having to make a harness? also, does it support vvt?

You will want to get the version with MS3X to support VVT. Most VVT applications would also need the MS3X for sequential injection and distributorless ignition.

Q: What all does this system come with

The basic MegaSquirt items are sold on an a la carte basis. This package includes just the ECU and a solder cup connector to make a wiring harness.
