I’m trying to connect a dell optiplex 780 to my smart tv. I already tried a vga to hdmi cord and it didn’t work. What can I use to do this?

If you're looking to run a 1080p or lower resolution monitor that has a DVI connector from the on board graphics in the Optiplex 780 this adapter should work just fine. If you're running this to a TV you'd likely need a DVI to HDMI connector as well since most TVs use HDMI. Will it work with the Dell Precision Workstation T1700

Your workstation is listed as having two DisplayPort and one VGA video outputs. Did it not come with this adapter? If not, it then depends on the inputs on your monitor. If it will accept DP, DVI, or VGA then you have options. You can either get a DP cable, VGA cable, or this adapter and use a DVI cable. That's why I had to get the adapters, because the monitors I was using would only take DVI or VGA input and I wanted to connect to them using the DVI port. Hope this helps.
