Classic Chesney
I have been a fan of Kenny Chesney for many years. My whole family looks forward to him coming to Heinz Field on his summer tours. This album is classic Chesney. His past few albums have been "ok" with a song or two that will make the charts, but this one is wonderful from beginning to end.My favorite songs on this CD are: The Boys of Fall, Coastal, Where I Grew Up, and Somewhere With You. "The Boys of Fall" is the anthem for anyone who played High School football or who looks back on their glory days of HS. The video for this is awesome. It contains video clips of some famous football players and some inspiring pre-game locker room pep talks. My son, who is in his mid 20's and played football in HS, got choked up when he saw the video. He had a serious knee injury his senior year which prevented him from playing college football. "Coastal" is a laid back Jimmy Buffet styled song. You can't go wrong with the Hemingway's Whiskey CD. Different styles of Country Music mixed into a CD which provides some great listening.

Kenny Chesney and a Guy Clark song - Doesn't get much better than this
Just downloaded Kenny Chesney's new CD, "Hemingway's Whiskey." Have done a quick first pass and have to say this one is good."Boys of Fall" will probably get the most air time, but for my money, "Where I Grew Up," written by Ashley Gorley, Kelley Lovelace and Neil Thrasher and the title cut, written by Guy Clark, are the best.My 30-year old son called me from Knoxville just now and said "Where I Grew Up" was playing on the radio as he was driving. He admitted having to pull over when he heard it. It moved him that much. I'm happy the boy got my music gene.My eyes leaked, too, when I heard it the first time."Small Ya'll" is a cute duet with George Jones. It was written by Bobby Braddock."Somewhere with You," by J.T. Harding and Shane McAnally is a great breakup song. The upbeat tempo belies a broken heart, but the lyrics sure pour out the misery of good love gone bad."Hemingway's Whiskey" sounds good here. Glad Chesney picked it. There's nothing much in the world that beats a Guy Clark song.

Year Away Paid Off
Although I was very disappointed when I found out Kenny Chesney wouldn't be touring summer 2010, this CD made it worthwhile.Boys of Fall has been playing a while on the radio and is a great song for those familiar with football each fall. "Live a Little" is a classic Kenny concert song that I can't wait to hear live. "Seven Days" is my personal favorite on the CD as Kenny seems to sing it with a lot of passion. I really enjoy "Coastal", "Where I Grew Up", "Reality", "Round and Round", and "Somewhere with You" are also songs that I really enjoy. The only negative I found with the CD was the 2 bonus tracks on the Deluxe Edition didn't really add much to the album in my opinion.

Music: 5 stars - forget the DVD.
After his last album ("Lucky Old Sun") sounded too much like another repackage of all remaining "island-themed-songs" he could still find, without any real stand-outs, "Hemingway's Whiskey" sounds like a come-back album. Starting with the excellent cover-shot, the album delivers a full package of memorable songs, most of which strongly rely on the country-story theme. Carried by Kenny's unmistakable country-voice it balances a very modern production, that has strong rock and pop influences.Songs like "Boys of Fall", "Where I Grew Up" and especially the moody drama of "Seven Days" (co-written by newcomer Lee Brice), script pictures in our minds, still long after the song has ended.I don't want to say, that the strength of the album clearly comes from its songs and the fact that Kenny only contributes one song (this may be just coincidental), but there is well known writer(-artist)s all over this album, starting with Guy Clark on the title track, to Bobby Braddock (for the George Jones duet), Paul Overstreet, Matraca Berg and David Lee Murphy. There is a great mix of ballads and rockers as well.Personally disappointing I find the much hyped duet with Grace Potter, simply because her voice (at least on this song) does not sound recognizable and could be replaced by any female; I would not notice. The reason, why I give this specific compilation only 4 stars, however is that the DVD is a disappointment, which should have been never made or better made. One cannot expect a video for each of the songs, when the album first comes out (only Garth Brooks did this much later with his Greatest Hits compilation), but one would expect more than being presented with the face of Kenny trying to find words to explain each of the songs on the album. Only once it cuts away to show some glimps of him and Grace Potter during work on their duet! A pure CD with a picture of Kenny would have had the same effect. For an excellent bonus-DVD look at "The Incredible Machine" by Sugarland, which is much more of a real Making-Of and Behind-the-Scenes of the idea and accompanying tour! I would have at least expected somehting similiar, if not actual song performances. The actual highlight of the deluxe-verions however is a live-song version of the song "I didn't get here alone" on the music CD! This is an absolute highlight of the album, written by Kenny, as a tribute to his fans, team and supporters, sort of his version of the song "The Fans" once written by Alabama. The melody is absolutely catchy and the almost accoustic delivery of the song adds to the charming honesty it delivers.Overall the music on the album is my personal highlight of 2010 and shows, that Kenny still knows how to make/find great music and songs!

Kenny Chesney
I "Love" this CD. I can listen to it over and over and not get tired of it. I'm always pleased when you buy a CD and the whole thing is good, not just the song from the radio..I was also glad my boyfriend ,who knows alot of trivia, could give me the scoop on what's behind the song "Hemingway's Whiskey"..Apparently Hemingway always drank a glass of Whiskey while he was writing. Anyway, you will not be disappointed in this CD. Of course, Amazon, as usual was very prompt with delivery and the product was in excellent condition. Thanks Amazon!
