Are they already painted?

No. They are grey plastic. You need to paint them after assembling them. The detail is very crisp, though; they were one of the most enjoyable painting projects I've done in several years.

Standing straight up 31mm bottom of foot top of bare head. With helmet or cap more like 32mm to 33mm. BUT the figures vary from set to set as to height and build. In "Germans On Maneuvers" the marching poses fit with my Eureka 28mm which are 31mm bottom of foot top of head with cap on while other poses in the set are huge by comparison.

are they easy to paint?

Easy is a relative term but popular military modeling scales are 1:16, 1:35, 1:48 & 1:72 and generally speaking the smaller they are the harder they are to paint. Also, as you move to the larger scales like 1:35, kits tend to be molded in separate pieces making painting easier. 1:35 is arguably, the most popular scale, it has the widest selection. bigger is generally easier but more expensive and it takes up more space which is particular important if you plan to build a diorama. If you are new to military modeling, I would recommend something in the 1:35 scale. If you are adimate about sticking with 1:48, Tamiya kits are good quality and I would say one of the easiest brands to paint. Less expensive brands tend to have more "flash" which is the slop left over from the molding process and flash and mold lines can make them more challenging to paint. Higher end figures may have a little cleaner mold lines than Tamiya but more detail is what you are paying for with higher end models and that detail requires painting. So... long winded way of saying if you're new, Tamiya is a good place to start but other than scale, larger being easier, the challenge of painting is more dependent on the painter; i.e. If you're patient, use good light, some magnification reading glasses, good paint, brushes, etc. and you enjoy tedious pointless endeavors, you'll be fine.

Is there an analogous Wehrmacht set in 48 scale?

Sort of, there is a wehrmacht set, however none are in similar combat positions but only marching, many interesting 1/48 vehicles to look into though.

These are not army men.

These are models, designed to go with armor models in the same series. Amazon lists them as "army men", they're not army men in the sense most Americans think of army man toys - they require assembly with glue of some pretty small parts. With that said, they're great recreations of each of the major weapons and clothing styles utilized by US Soldiers during World War II. If you are buying them for modeling or for educating, they're great, if you are buying them with small children in mind, they're not the right product.

Another good model figure set from Tamiya

These are small well detailed 1/48 scale US. Soldiers. Depicted in Ww2 uniforms and equipment. Will go well with 1/48 scale model vehicles i have built. Molded in a light gray color. Another great model feom Tamiya. Thank you

1/48 scale soldiers in action

It is very hard to find 1/48 scale figures- most are 1/32 - 1/35 scale or in 1/72.... Tamiya makes very detailed plastic figures.

Do not buy these!!!

The photo of these army men is so misleading. I received these men in the mail expecting to give them to my 7 year old as a Christmas present because he loves military toys. The men are about the size of a large ant. You have to assemble them thus the legs are about the size of a 1/2 an ant. The torso the size of the other 1/2 of an ant and then the head the size of a flea. Little hands in no way shape or form can assemble these or understand what they are. Additionally, they are not painted as shown. They are all the color green. Each piece is stuck into a jumble of plastic so you have to cut them apart and it is terribly difficult to discern what is what. Do NOT waste your money

Not an easy build

I was hoping for soldier models that would be easy to build and sturdy once built. They were neither. I'm an experienced modeler, but I found the figures fiddley and hard to glue together and rather delicate when built. Makes them unsuitable for wargaming; OK for dioramas. The sculpting is good. The figures are well proportioned and accurately kitted out.
