It was a Xmas gift for my son. He loved it and plays often. He did mention that the penalties and free kicks are different from Fifa 2019, but actually easier to target now. I just wished they would also keep older players that have retired, such as Arjen Roben!

I last owned FIFA in 2016, and wow FIFA 20 is a huge jump from '16. I mainly play Career mode, but the gameplay is so much better now. There are a ton of controls to master, but they make sense, players move like they're supposed to, and the commentary is more varied and accurate now. You don't hear the announcers repeat themselves too much.For those of you learning to play FIFA, there are tutorials you can play to master the many different controls and I highly recommend them. I can't comment on the online play because I don't feel I'm ready for that yet (I only just graduated to the Professional difficulty against the computer).

If you play just regular online( not pro club) you will face the same 5 times on repeat. If your Read Madrid you will face City, Barca, Madrid, Liverpool or Bayern. That’s it that’s the full extent of the game, for that mode just those 5 teams. I think they should put the player ratings and club ratings aside and make them more the same so people can play more teams more often. If not it’s just 5 maybe an occasional wild card and this gets old after a while.

The AI in this game is shocking. Since FIFA 14, EA have struggled to create intelligent AI-controlled teams, they simply dumb down your players. It’s always been a point of contention for me but this year they’ve hit a new low. Passing is almost always cut out unless you drive outside to pass it in. Just to test, I played with Liverpool (5 star team) against LAFC (3 star team) and was confirmed in my thinking. Through balls lose pace and have ridiculous directioning. It either drags the player wide or bounces into the defenders feet and possession is lost. These are top players playing as poor as an mls side. But even then it’s not a level playing field. Good players play terribly, but mediocre players are useless. Mid range 70s might as well be 50s. Good luck taking a championship team into the Prem top 4. You’ll need all fifteen years in career mode to have a chance at the title (yep, that’s right. They still haven’t removed that cap).Then there’s the defending. Defending is impossible. You can place your defender right on top of an attacker and they’ll bundle right though him and leave the gk exposed for a 1on1. Even when they intercept, the ball tends to bounce off their feet right back into the attacker. It’s maddening. Virgil Van Dijk losing the ball like that doesn’t make any sense; which is another problem I have with the game.Buying a fantastic player doesn’t add to your team. Strong players feel the exact same as weaker ones. Only pace is a tangible difference. The AI for your teammates is maddeningly aloof as well. You’ll make a cutting run inside to open up the wing and your other player will stand still instead of making the corresponding run to receive the pass. Multiple times I’ve carved open the back line only to find myself in no mans land with zero support. I’ve tried adjusting the tactics as well. Fullbacks instructed to overlap, with wingers set to cut inside: no change.Career mode is ruined as well. Young players refuse to go out on loan and improve. Seriously, this was the year where they added a feature where playtime effected player potential and they go and kick it in the back of the knees by stopping young players from developing out on loan. Total head scratcher.I had issues with FIFA 16-19 but felt they were mostly enjoyable games. I was willing to look past their flaws and find the positives in the gameplay, but this is unforgivable. EA clearly have no idea what makes a good FIFA iteration. They screwed up with FIFA 14 after a solid (IMO best) run of games with 10, 12, and the gold standard 13 and now they’ve gone and put out an unplayable mess.I know it’s boring to play FIFA 19 two years in a row, but unless they majorly patch the gameplay for this one I would strongly recommend skipping. Volta is a joke and so is FUT. Shame on you EA for such a crap pile.
