Truly an amazing light if you want to get away from the costly CR123 batteries. This thing has remarkable brightness and hellacious throw. It should be noted that it only maintains max lumen rating known as "turbo" mode for around 7 minutes and gradually winds down and settles in at around 1600 lumen for the next hour or so of run time. Still yet, it's amazing for the price!

solid, bright, annoying switch
Update. Died. Getting power to switch (switch flashes blue), but no light. Guessing the LED failed, but could be the wacky switch. For the price, not acceptable...this should last much longer...I have store bought flashlight that have lasted longer for 1/10 the price.Solid aluminum construction and a good lense. The adjustable power-levels provide just the right amount of light. I wish it had a different switch -- it's hard to hold the flashlight without hitting the switch, which toggles light power-level when barely pressed (before a click).

Light is bright but non Zoomable which is really disappointing. If you need a wider beam or a narrower beam than what this is set at, then you are out of luck.I was able to return, but was charged $6 so think wisely before you purchase.

GREAT FLASHLIGHT BUT PROBLEMS WITH EASY BATTERY ACID LEAKAGE/CORROSION THAT RUINS FLASHLIGHT
This is an incredible flashlight. Nitecore classifies this flashlight as "Nitecore's most powerful handheld AA searchlight/spotlight ever, is ideal for border security and search and rescue personnel on land or sea." It most certainly is, and it has overpowered two handheld spotlights that I have owned, i.e., a 5-million and a 1-million candlepower spotlight. It is solid and well constructed. In an wide-spread disastrous situation, you do not have to rely on strange battery sizes nor recharging; all you need is eight AA batteries. The fact that this flashlight is waterproof to 6.5 feet as well as containing the micro-textured reflector, the quad-die CREE X-LAMP XHP50 LED, and flashlight head crystal-clear lens, it is the ideal flashlight to own. However, all this being said, there is a major DOWNSIDE. Batteries tend to leak aqueous potassium hydroxide (battery acid) easily if you only use the flashlight intermittently. The first Nitecore EA81 2150 Caveman Lumen CREE XHP50 LED compact AA battery flashlight/searchlight that I owned, four of the eighr included EdisonBright AA batteries leaked and affected the function of the light. The second Nitecore EA81 2150 Caveman Lumen CREE XHP50 LED compact AA battery flashlight/searchlight lasted eight months before two of the eight Duracell AA batteries leaked acid and could not be removed. This flashlight was completely ruined and did not work.PROS1. Incredible, well-built flashlight at a great price.2. Can use eight regular or rechargeable AA-batteries3. Micro-textured reflector that focuses and projects a brilliant beam.4. Incredibly bright quad-die CREE X-LAMP XHP50 LED bulb.5. Brighter and easier to handle that regular large spotlights.6. Waterproof to 6.5-feetCONS1. Batteries tend to easily leak and completely ruin the flashlight. In searching the Internet on how to dissolve and remove AA battery corrosion, two other models of Nitecore flashlights other than this one were shown as examples of extreme battery corrosion that ruined both of these Nitecore flashlights.2. If you use this flashlight intermittently, do not store the flashlight with the batteries in it. Remove all batteries for storage. This is somewhat a hassle because when you want to use the flashlight, you have to take a little extra time to put in the batteries.

very bright
very nice quality light, and it is very bright. four stars because it is expensive, but you get what you pay for. also they sent the wrong size batteries with my order, sent me CR123A instead of AA, but I had plenty of AA's around.

great product
Great flashlight. It is annoying how if you have it in standby mode it drains the batteries, but overall a sturdy reliable light. Its comparable to a m6lt guardian by surefire. There hot spot and flood capabilities are slightly different so a direct answer to which one is brighter is a toss up. For the price you can't beat it, and the fact that it uses aa instead of cr123 batteries is a big plus. It is made in China which is disappointing but at this day and age it's almost expected. I do wish it had a simple mode along with a full feature mode mainly cause after awhile it can get annoying switching between settings. Overall I would recommend this product.UPDATE :This review is for the EA8 Caveman, and not the new EA81 that has replaced it. The listing was never remade for the ne version, and is just put on the old products page. I will try to get the new version for testing, but due to money restrictions that might take a bit.

Poorly Built ON/OFF Switch
Within the warranty period this lights switch quit working. Additionally it is easily accidently set off. When I tried to appeal under the warranty I had a very very difficult time getting through and when I did get through I was told I could ,if I wanted to, ship the light back to China for review. Fortunately I took this up with Amazon and they made it right.

Great torch. Can't live without it!
I love this torch so much, I actually have dreams where I need it but don't have it, or the batteries are flat. That's how much I love this. The torch takes a number of batteries (8 actually) but if you have rechargeables, you're all set. It's bright, has good functions, feels great in your hand and has been useful when I've been out doing astrophotography in the middle of the night. The only fault I have, is that the difference between the lowest and second lowest settings are almost literally night and day. That, and how many batteries it needs. But again, rechargeables.
