When the zipper is fully closed there is still approximately a 4 inch opening left at the end.

Q: Is this bag machine washable? If not, how do you clean it?

I’d just hose it down and dry it in the sun. It’s canvas. I think it may hold up in the washer but the shape would probably be compromised. It’s a nice bag.

Q: Is this suitable for a miniature dachshund?

In my opinion - yes. I used it to carry my cat - which is about the same size and weight.
