Winco - our favorite; Cilio - also good; Metrokane Velvet - too fragile
We like Bosca spumante, and have searched for years for a stopper to seal the bottle so that the contents could be enjoyed over a number of days. In our experience, Bosca spumante has a similar bottle-opening to most bottles of spumante, sparkling wine, and champagne; thus, a stopper labeled "champagne" could be used on most of the aforementioned bottles. We've been using the Winco Champagne Bottle Stopper for about 5 months, now, and it works wonderfully. The operation is simple and results in a nice, tight seal on the spumante bottle. When the bottle is re-opened, we consistently hear the hiss of gas being released, and the wine still bubbles and fizzes as it is poured. Typically, the bottle is resealed with the Winco 1 or 2 times over the course of a few days, and the wine is still bubbly and enjoyable. I've left a bottle refrigerated and sealed with the Winco for up to a week, and still heard the hiss when the Winco was removed (the spumante was bubbly, but not as much so as when it is enjoyed within a couple of days of opening). Some of the negative comments others have left regarding the Winco seemed to indicate that it may have a tendency to loosen and pop-off of the bottle. We have not experienced that, nor has our stopper's grips weakened. However, even if the grips did weaken, the stopper would work equally as well if one simply applied it to the bottle and then secured the arms with a rubberband or the like. In other words, the stopper would not be a complete loss even if it didn't work exactly as it was intended. The other two stoppers - Cilio and Metrokane Velvet - are virtually useless once they break, as there is no way to really salvage them and use them in an alternative manner.Cilio Champagne Sealer has also worked well for us. Its operation is simple, and it provides a decent seal with consistently decent results. However, if I leave the Cilio on a bottle of spumante for more than a couple of days, it does seem to leak a little. In other words, it provides a good seal for 1 or 2 days, but then the seal starts to weaken. Granted, sparkling wines weren't meant to be kept at length, anyway, but...our lives get busy. As with the Metrokane Velvet, once the Cilio breaks (or no longer functions satisfactorily), it will be a complete loss, as there doesn't appear to be any way to salvage it to use in a rudimentary way. We haven't had cause to replace it or discard it, since we primarily use the Winco stopper, so I can't really comment on its longevity. We've owned it for 5 months, and have used it 3 or 4 times. When they function properly, Metrokane Velvet Champagne and Wine Sealers form the tightest fit on the bottle and best preserve the gas/bubbles in the spumante. However, they are very fragile. We've owned numerous Metrokane Velvet stoppers, and no matter how gentle we were with them, they only lasted long enough to seal 5 or 6 bottles. Eventually, they just turn and turn, and the stopper no longer seals the bottle. I've read much helpful advice from other Metrokane owners who were able to repair their stoppers, but ours were always hopelessly irreparable.

An extremely elegant solution
On the rare occasion that the two of us can't finish a bottle of sparkling wine, this bottle stopper/saver comes to the rescue, providing an elegant solution to an unfortunate problem. The first thing I noticed about the product is how attractive and well-made it looks. The device is made up of a "cap" with two side flaps, each of which is connected to the cap with hinges. If you turn the device over, you see a stopper inside the cap; this stopper is spring-loaded, and when pressure is applied, the stopper goes up into the cap. To use it, you place the device on an open sparkling wine bottle and press down. The top of the bottle gets swallowed by the device as the springs press the stopper against the bottle opening, sealing it with the spring-loaded pressure. To lock it into place, you simply fold down the hinge-mounted flaps, which lock onto the lower lip of the sparkling wine bottle. So simple, yet so ingenious!I've had nothing but positive results when using this device. As described in the name of this product, this is designed to preserve **sparkling wine**, so obviously it won't work (at least not well) on regular wine, soda bottles, or anything else that isn't shaped like a sparkling wine bottle. I've tried it on about 6 different bottles so far (including Cava, Prosecco, and American sparkling wines), and it has fit and worked perfectly on all of them. If you have a bottle of sparkling wine that is dramatically different from the traditional sparkling wine bottle shape, there's a good chance this won't work. Remember that this stopper works based on the shape of the bottle, not the fact that it's sparkling wine. The longest I've left this on an open bottle has been 5 days. As soon as I poured the first glasses from the new bottle, I sealed it with this and refrigerated the bottle. After 5 days of storage, the sparkling wine was pretty darn close to when it was opened, though obviously a little less effervescent. I can't report on how well this may store sparkling wines after 5 days, but you really shouldn't be storing it any longer than that. Remember that this product helps keep the wine from going "flat," but it doesn't do anything to slow down oxidation, the process that begins breaking down the taste and quality of wine as soon as it's opened. So think of this as an extension of a few days, not a long-term solution, and drink your leftover wine while it's still at its peak, no longer than 3-5 days!

Works great on the right bottles
This champagne stopper works great on the right bottles and preserves the carbonation really well.First off, how it works... the rubber sealer in the center is spring loaded. You place it on the bottle, press down firmly and compress the rubber sealer roughly a quarter of an inch and then pull the wings of it together to clasp that ring/lip below the mouth of the champagne bottle. If the underside of that ring/lip on the champagne bottle is beveled too much, it won't stay on. If it's flat, it stays on surprisingly well.I've only used it on two different bottles of champagne. On one it worked perfectly and on the other it had too much of a bevel on the underside of the champagne ring so I just wrapped a rubber band around it to keep the clasps hooked on. I don't think the rubber band is that big of a deal and am more than happy with this purchase. It pays for itself after the first use.I deducted one star because it could work on more bottles if the wings/clasps of it were also spring loaded (wouldn't need a rubber band on some bottles).

Make champagne last!!!
This cap is the perfect way to keep champagne (and any sparkling wine) fresh and bubbly for many days in an open and partially-consumed bottle. No more trying to cut a champagne cork down to size to roughly fit it back in the bottle. This cap holds in the bubbles, and the two arms on the side hold onto the upper lip of ever sparkling wine bottle I've ever tried, keeping the cap from popping off due to pressure. The cap holds tight and keeps your sparkling wine for days in a nearly "just opened" condition. A fabulous investment to extend the life of champagne that you don't finish in one sitting, and a great gift for others.
