The definitive guide to wool applique and embroidery! Welcome to beloved designer Lisa Bongean's private classroom! Toss the trial-and-error and learn from Lisa's decades of experience how she creates her exquisite stitcheries step by step: wool applique, embroidery, and more. Filled with close-up photos of Lisa's hands working her magic, this book will help you master each technique down to the tiniest detail. Start with Lisa's fabric tips; then move on to her favorite tools, templates, threads, and needles. How does she create her slim vines, pretty pennies, and flower appliques? It's all here, along with a dozen embroidery stitches in photos so clear, you'll know exactly how to re-create them. Lisa also shares five sweet projects to make yourself, rounding out this jam-packed volume that will teach you how to start, stitch, and finish your projects more accurately, more confidently, and more beautifully than ever before. Review: This is the ultimate go-to-guide for wool applique - This book is an awesome wool applique (and finishing) resource and is a good read for all skill levels. (Yes, I read each and every page...and thoroughly enjoyed it!) I love wool applique stitching and am self taught (with some help from YouTube). As a result, there are a few gaps in my expertise, especially when it comes to finishing...like adding wool pennies to the outside edges of a project and such. I learned several things I didn't know before. Lisa uses fusible web (I do also) to adhere applique pieces because it not only holds the pieces in place for easier 'take-along' potential but also because it helps keep the wool edges from fraying. The book is well written and each step includes a color photo. At times I felt that there were too many pictures but if you are new to wool applique or are a visual learner then the pictures will be VERY helpful. I especially liked the information on cutting wool stems. Lisa also has a short and long acrylic ruler available for purchase for cutting the perfect sized stems. What I didn't care for in the book was how often there was a reference that the perfect item was available on the Primitive Gatherings website and that if you didn't go through them you would probably not get what you wanted. Too much marketing for my taste. (I say that but then I DID go to Lisa's website and bought stem templates...go figure, apparently the marking worked...darn it.) The book has an excellent section of stitches from the basic blanket stitch to drizzle stitch and bullion stitch. The instructions and pictures for the featherstitch were the best I've ever seen. If offered do-overs...would I buy this book again? Absolutely YES!! I highly recommend it for all skill levels because it is truly the best wool applique reference book I've seen. Review: Great Start - I wanted a good start into working with wool felt. I perused books in the library and researched others online, deciding on this one, and am so pleased I did! The photos and step-by- step instructions are clear, and the author explains why a technique is done a certain way, as well as offering tips that even an experienced embroiderer may not know. It feels like you’re sitting in a workshop with her and the projects are simple and straightforward, but quite pleasing. I’m so looking forward to this!

This is the best book for beginners like that I’ve found. It is detailed, step by step, and I’m ready to start wool appliqué instead of being reluctant to try it.
