What is the pipe size, the big hole?

It's used to mount standard hose bibbs. Once you choose the hose bibb you're installing, the back end of the bibb would determine the pipe size needed to connect to it.

How does this protect dissimilar metals? copper pipe and alum. plate? i guess you need a gasket to protect the pipe from touching the plate.

When I installed the plate it didn't come in contact with the piping. I don't know if the opening measurement is in the information so check there first then fine out the outside diameter of your pipe.

Seems like there would be a market for decorative mounting plates. Anyone thought of this or seen decorative ones?

I have painted a few for customers but have never seen decorative ones before, I agree they are not much to look at but they certainly come in handy when the hole is drilled to big. Good idea design some cool ones, you will be rich.

So is the plate made of steel or aluminum? Last question about this had two different answers.

Definitive answer-Aluminum with stainless steel screws. I’m sure of this because: 1- It’s not magnetic. 2- It scratches easily. 3- Most importantly I had to modify it to be able to use it for the Sharkbite bibcock and remember using a tapered reamer to do it easily. Hope this helps.
