Comfortable for hiking
I really like these lightweight shorts for hiking that don’t ride up. Note that the pockets are too small for an iPhone. I like the belt, it’s a nice feature & is easy to fasten. Also they’re machine washable, a huge plus. I noticed several other hiking shorts on Amazon are not machine washable

Very comfortable and versatile
Very light weight, quick-drying, and comfortable with a stretch waistband beneath the adjustable clip belt, deep side pockets (large enough for an iPhone 10 in a wallet style cover) and roomy legs - just the right length, about 4” above the top of my knee. There is an additional small zippered pocket on the right leg, and small flap-over pocket on the left - perfect for keys, money, ID card, lip balm, etc. I’m 60 years old, 5’4”, 145 lbs. and these are just exactly the warm weather hiking/ walking shorts I was looking for. Ladies, if you are looking for something that will still fit as your body changes a size or two, these fit the bill. I am currently in the size 10-12 range and ordered a size large. Even though they feel roomy, They look great and I think they will still look good as I (hopefully) drop back down to the size 8-10 range

Nice multi-functional outdoorsy shorts
I got these shorts for an upcoming trip to the Grand Canyon. I haven't worn them yet so I can't speak to its durability quite yet.The material is great -- super lightweight and has a nice breezy feeling. The material seems like it will dry incredibly quickly which is one of the main reasons I chose this style. The waist is elastic with zippered fly and a top button. There's also a top belt that I don't know will be of much use.I had difficulty with the sizing. Columbia sizing is always a little off to me -- sometimes I'm an XS with room to spare and other times I'm an S that just fits. I usually wear a 2 in "regular" clothing / 26 in designer jeans. I got these in the S originally and they ran big on me. I could pull the shorts on and off without needing to unzip (minus belt). I was worried the shorts would slip off and I do not have a small waist despite wearing a size 2 (I have no curves). Then I ordered the XS and though the legs fit great now the waist was a tad too tight. It's not unbearable but it gives me the slightest of muffin tops. I'm going to keep the XS because they feel much more secure.

Just what I wanted
I wanted a casual, comfortable, lightweight pair of shorts for these weeks of lockdown in very hot weather. Several people mentioned the problems of the plastic snap closure. It does take quite a tug to open which might lead to a problem with repeated tugs. However, with the elastic waist, there is no need to unsnap! Just pull up and down. Works well even with my curvy hips. I like the length and the look. My phone fits in the pocket, too. I put them on when they were delivered today and I'm sitting here in comfort hours later. The wrinkles of long sitting smooth out when I stand up. The fabric is thin, but not see-through. I got the medium blue...may have to order some other colors as well!

Great shorts for hiking
I was looking for light weight shorts, with pockets, to wear hiking, kayaking etc. These also dry quickly. The pockets hold my phone, keys and few smaller items I might choose to carry.I’m 5’10” and some might think inseam is not long enough but I’m not wearing them out in the general public. I was looking for comfort and practicality and these are perfect.

comfortable shorts, but not what i would consider "cargo" shorts
these shorts are comfortable and true to size, are a reasonably soft lightweight fabric, and the color is accurate to the product images. i haven't taken them out hiking yet, so i can't say whether they ride up or not, but they were comfortable and cool enough to run errands in on a 90° day. however as cargo shorts, these are not good. they only have four pockets, only two of which are serviceable for anything but a tube of lip balm. the zippered pockets are tiny and the openings are barely big enough to fit two fingers through to get things out of it. the two larger pockets can fit a phone well enough, but the opening is so wide and the pockets shallow so that the second you sit down, everything in your pocket is falling out. there are no pockets on the back of the shorts.

My favorites
These Columbia Sandy River Cargo shorts are my favorite brand & style of shorts. They fit perfectly, aren't too long or too short, and are very comfortable. My only gripe is the price; I refuse to pay the high price most stores sell them for, and even though the price on Amazon is lower, it's still a bit steep for shorts.I will say though, they're very durable; I've had a couple pair for many years and I wear them constantly throughout the year -- and they're still in very good shape. I do wish they were easier to find and had more colors available; there were many colors shown on Amazon but only 2 actually available. Not sure where to find the other colors in retail stores.**UPDATE:** A few other colors became available recently in my size, so I order a pair in the 'Light Lichen' color, which looks like a light greenish/blue in the picture. While the fit and fabric were perfect as usual, the color was not what I expected. They're much darker and more green than the picture, more of a light/medium army green. Plus I noticed they lowered the price $10 the day after I ordered them! :-(

Ok but but not really cargo shorts
Fit is baggy and unflattering, the 2x is fine for 18W pant size but is poofy around crotch. Not really cargo shorts, my wallet barely fits in the pocket. Probably would fit better if it had actually come with the belt, apparently QA/QC at Columbia has gone down hill.
