Excellent quality
I've seen some negative reviews on this model of Hamilton. Most had to do with the H-50 movement. Some have reported they heard a "pop" while winding the watch and it no longer worked... I truly believe this is operator error. When winding this watch all the way, the moment you feel resistance, "STOP WINDING". Hamilton reduced the size of the mainspring, to make it thinner, slowing down the movement to allow for an impressive 80 hour reserve. Overwinding is not good for any mechanical watch. As for the watch, I truly love it. It's a perfect size for my wrist. It has been well within specs for accuracy, and you can see it losing a few seconds throughout the day as the movement winds down closer to needing to be rewound (about every couple of days or so). The leather nato is excellent quality. The face of the watch is easily legible with no frills. It's just simplistic beauty. I'm very happy with the purchase.

Very pleased but be advised these are "grey market" watch purchases
If you don't know, the gray market is entirely legal, and is usually (not always) a legit way of buying and sellling watches, usually those that cost upwards of several hundreds of dollars. You can search for what the gray market means, but these are usually the authentic watches sold by unauthorized dealers (through Amazon). The watches are not stolen but acquired from other authorized dealers for one reason or another, and then sold by an unauthorized dealer. What does this all mean? You may indeed get the watch you want, but most often you won't get it in the original box or packaging, the papers will be absent or incomplete, and prepare yourself for not having a manufacturer's warranty (not honored if watch sold by unauthorized dealer). If the price discount is enough, it might indeed be worth it. I purchased a fairly expensive (over $1K) watch from Amazon, at almost half the retail price that was new and authentic, but didn't have papers, or the proper boxing, or a warranty. For me, it was worth it. Of the 8 - 10 or so watches I've purchased through Amazon, all but one were missing something (including the warranty), but I still considered them a good deal because they were substantially discounted. How do you know you aren't getting a fake watch? Yep, that's always a concern, and the fakes are getting harder to spot. Again, you have to decide whether it's worth it, whether the discount is enough to take on these missing elements and the possibility of getting a fake, or at least always wondering....Now, for this watch in particular. I am very pleased. I got it for about $175 off retail. It came in the proper box, but without any of the papers. It looked band new, and my close inspection makes it highly likely the watch is authentic. This is a great watch, one of the very few that is entirely faithful to the original field design. I have some of the original Hamilton H3 field watches. They are so small by today's standards they look like kids's watches. This one is slightly larger than the originals, but is otherwise nearly a dead ringer. The hour font and size are correct. No date window (correct), and mechanical winding -- all correct. It looks fabulous. The faux patina to the lume color is controversial, but comparing it side to side with an actual original H3 watch, it looks pretty darn good. So I am very pleased with this purchase. If you read the questions section, some ask whether they will get all the papers and boxes etc. Again, with nearly every watch I've purchased through amazon, that has NOT been the case. I'm sure there are good exceptions, but be aware of the gray market.

Just what I wanted
I had the Hamilton khaki mechanical with date and green dial in 2008 but it was lost. I've been thinking about another one for awhile tossed about on Hamilton, tissot, glycine just couldn't find the dial I liked on any but the Hamilton and I got the black dial just like the Vietnam to mid 80's style. I was a little worried about the 38mm size but fits my 8 inch wrist perfect and I think looks sharp,I was about to get the Bulova wilton power reserve at Costco but I'm glad I got the Hamilton. I really like a hand winder better than automatic and Hamilton is the only swiss made one I found at the same price. you also upgrade to swiss instead of japanese movement and get really retro! I'm definitely a Hamilton fan so if your thinking about this Hamilton just get it you can't go wrong! The watch has been excellent in every regard and I lose exactly 1 second per day so well within chronometer specs. That's about it,I'm extremely happy and satisfied with my new watch....

The one and only field watch!
I first want to say that my new watch arrived at lightning speed, in only 2 days, with all materials, warranty information and user guide present and accounted for. This field watch at 38mm in diameter is the perfect size (the original Hamiton field watch supplied to the US troops during WWII was 34mm). It sits comfortably on the wrist and the suppled NATO band is soft, thin and of good quality. I also show a pic of the watch with a one-piece, single strap, black leather band. I like that look as it adds a touch of formality to the watch when fine dining over steak and lobster around the campfire. The watch is all business, and every design element has an intended purpose. There's no other field watch quite like this one and it's as close as it gets to the original field watch. Most others are poor imitations of the real thing. If you're considering purchasing this watch, I recommend you pull the trigger and own it, you won't regret it.

This is my favorite watch. Awesome.
This is now my favorite watch. Very attractive on the wrist. It gains about five seconds after I wind it.

Rugged and Vintage Cool Looking
It is like a great hand-wound military watches of the last century. If you are into vintage military watches, this Hamilton watch is a must owned.

Super accurate
I've been checking this watch by my atomic clock and it is right on time. Easy to read with the white numerals against the black face. I also like the mechanical movement, NO BATTERIES!
