Girls Like Us

Having grown up in Suffolk County, I was looking forward to reading this story and Cristina did not disappoint! I definitely felt like I was back home, and grateful that I could picture all the places she was talking about. I really feel connected to the characters, and toward the end of the book there were a lot of plot twists I did not see coming. I especially felt the need of the younger people in the book to want to leave the island. A lot of time the older generations stay, but the younger ones want out as soon as possible. I will definitely be checking out more books by Cristina Alger

Easy read. The story moves fast however at times feels rushed. But a good book for a short vacation read or book club read. FBI agent Nell Flynn goes home to Suffolk County after her father’s death. From there a series of events unfold that keep Nell in town as she unofficially investigates a murder, learns the truth about those who were around her in her earlier years and opens Pandora’s box to a much bigger operation.

The plot was.well put together, fast and thorough. The characters were well put together and complex. The scenery and area were just well enough described. It was not too violent. It was hard to put down.

At the recommendation of Dana Perino, Fox News anchor and cohost and former press secretary for President George W. Bush, I purchased GIRLS LIKE US by Cristina Alger. It wasn't bad, but I wish I had borrowed it from the library, instead. Perino is a smart beauty with an impressive resume, but our tastes in writing style don't quite agree. Nell, an FBI agent with an office in Washington, DC, comes home to Long Island for her father's funeral. He was a police detective who died in a motorcycle accident. But Nell becomes suspicious about her father's death and of all the people he worked with. So she doesn't return to Washington as soon as she had planned. I was put off by all sorts of little details such as a sentence I could have sworn I read elsewhere and Nell's statement that prostitutes don't choose that profession. But it isn't a bad book, just not good enough to make me seek Alger's other books.

This was a surprisingly good read for me, and it was quite a page-turner. I picked it up only because of the great reviews by my Goodreads friends and I so appreciate their thoughtful reviews! We are introduced to FBI agent Nell Flynn, who returns to her childhood home because of her estranged police officer father’s sudden death from motorcycle accident. She finds herself involved the investigation of grisly murders of young girls and assists with the search of a serial killer. I was really riveted and could hardly turn the pages fast enough once I got past a fairly slow start. I never read anything by Cristina Alger before, and what an introduction this was!! I was also very happy NOT to have guessed correctly whodunit...yet it was absolutely there in front of me all along. Alger is a gifted writer who seems to respect her readers, and I must check out her other books. The ending was perfect; no cliffhanger here! Recommended for thriller and mystery lovers alike.

I couldn’t put this book down, although in order to get on with my life, I had to, of course. The author fleshed out most all of the characters who were important to the story, it is important to me to know who they are and why they do the things they do. I don’t like to give away stories before other people read the book, so I’ll just say it was exciting and surprising.

I can't remember where I heard about this book, but I bought it with a few others, and a week or so later, I finally got to it. It was such a satisfying read, and I knew it would be from the first page. As a reader and a writer, you just know when a story and voice click, and this novel clicked so well for me. I read it voraciously from start to finish, and of course, I finished it fast. It's that good. Highly recommended!

3.5 rounded up. I enjoyed this book and liked the main character. There are many times I wish an author had shortened their book by a hundred pages or so because I'm not a fan of pointless space filling and will skim if I get bored. And maybe us readers are just never satisfied; but here, I wished for more. It seemed like there was enough evidence sitting around that the case (or at least the one that happened a year ago) could have and should have been solved and arrests made before Nell even arrived. For her to walk in and figure out years of criminal activities in a week and get all the credit seemed a little unrealistic. That being said, there was plenty of action, good characters and a decent plot. This is worth reading and I will not hesitate to pick up this author's next book.

Me gustó mucho, de eso me acuerdo. Por como está escrito, y la trama. Lo recomiendo seguro. Tengo que decir que me ha costado un poco acordarme de él, porque leo muy seguido y no sé qué libro leo. Pero se que me enganchó, que me agradó leerlo y que hasta solté lágrimas. Eso significa buena descripción de sentimientos.

A really good read - had me wanting to keep reading.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book! A real page turner! Love the writing style and also thee gripping storyline in all of Cristina Alger’s books!
