I would like to give my grandson a pocket knife. He will be 11 - which one would you recommend?

I got this exact same knife (Victorinox Tinker, with the scissors and the Philips screwdriver) when I turned 11 and became a Boy Scout. It's 35 years later, and I still carry it every day. Fantastic knife, and the perfect combination of tools.

does the knife come with a small hole for a straight pen under the phillips screwdriver tool?

Depends. Most older ones (mid 90s? and before) don't. All new 91mm SAKs since then do, I have two old SAKs (both two different models of the Craftsman--one from the '70s, another from late '80s). Pen hole--no that only comes on a few Plus scaled models (SwissChamp, Champion, Compact (also the Climber had them at one time), and the occasional dealer who puts them on, not counting used knives that were upgraded to Plus scales).

Does the large blade have the words "swiss made" at the base?

On one side, the large blade has "Victorinox Swiss Made Stainless" and on the other side it has "Officier Suisse".

do the knives click into place?

Maybe. The blades and tools do click as the open, but they don't click into place like something actually locking. So, short version; they click from being under tension, but not from any mechanical system to latch things in place.
