The snaps of this replacement clip hook are very firm and relatively far apart. I took the broken top portion of the grommet and snapped it into place first, broken side down. The I lined up the bottom portion with the broken pattern of the broken grommet as best I was able. The snaps on the clip hook are almost stupid stiff, so lining up everything as best as could be contrived, I gave it a firm tap with a rubber mallet to seat the snaps through the bottom broken grommet. This seemed to have seated it okay with two more taps just to make sure. The first tap broke the feeble lanyard that holds the expansion clip that goes down the holes in the grommet and the hole in the clip hook that lines up the hole in the grommet. The taps seems to have set the expansion clip well, which sets and holds the entire assembly into place. The broken lanyard is irrelevant, its purpose just seems to be to keep the expansion clip on hand and not loose and subject to getting lost.. Time will tell. If you don't have a grommet I'd think a large diameter flat washer (metal or suitable plastic) with an appropriate sized center hole would suffice. All one sees is the "birds beak" portion that sticks out just enough to hold the Mat in its place. If this holds up for a sufficient period, I'll leave 5 stars. If not, I will adjust this as appropriate. In the meantime, it's very nice not to have that Mat riding up by the pedals and stop the undue wear on the carpet beneath with the Mat sliding around with the inevitable sand and grit beneath it acting like sandpaper.
