8 year old girl
I was hesitant about buying this bow for my girl due to the mixed reviews. Now that we have it and she has used it, I am so glad I bought this for her. She has shot over 100 arrows and is getting pretty accurate from about 15 yards. At first it was hard for her to get a full draw, but after working with her for a minute, she has no problems drawing now. The pull weight and length is perfect for her 48" tall average build body. I read may reviews having negative statements about the power of the bow, loose string and the "cheap" arrows. I have not seen anything to support those reviews. I have not had any problems with the arrows it came with and the bow seems to be the perfect draw weight for her. The string is tight without any slop in it. I did not have to adjust the draw weight, as it was perfect for her right out of the box. She has a little room to grow with the bow, but I do see her growing out of it in a couple of years. This is not a deer hunting bow, but it is perfect to teach a child how to shoot properly.I would recommend adding a D-loop and release with this bow. That's what I did and it worked out perfect. I do not think she would be able to use it without them.

Great for kids wanting to learn
Absolutely perfect for my son. Lord besides his perfect that has great accuracy and it makes it very easy for beginners. My son picked it up right away and has loved it.

My sons first bow
I have to start by saying that I looked at this because of the Bear name, I was not disappointed. I got this bow for him to learn about the bow and know that it isn't a toy and to shoot at a target. The bow is well made for the type of bow that it is. I believe that after being taught, it will provide what he needs to know about the bow and shooting it. It is light and you can change the pounds as he gets stronger with it. I am looking forward to having him shoot it. Also it was packaged well and the bow itself seems to be rugged enough to withstand what a nine year old will throw at it.

Sloppy string adjustment
The bow setup was pretty easy to put together, and the concept is really nice. It does have the ability to grow with an archer, at least for a little while. After it is too small young archers would certainly be able to find something that would fit them better. The only negative, which is pretty important, is that the string gets sloppy when the weight is adjusted. That means that the string actually is "loose" when the bow is at rest. I am not sure why this happens, and think that there will need to be some changes in the engineering of this setup to take care of that issue. As the archer's strength increases and the draw weight is increased, it returns to the "tight" string that it should be all the time. Unfortunately, it is during the time of lower draw weight that young archers are learning proper form, and the loose string makes that rather difficult. If you are looking for a bow to get a young archer started, this will work, but it could help more in creating bad habits early that would have to be overcome later. There are other bows that are better out there, and for $10 more it is worth it. Even some companies, such as Bowtech, are engineering bows today that grow from the 20 lb draw weight and 21" draw length up to a draw weight of about 45 lbs and draw length of 29 inches. They are far more impressive, but also carry a heavier price. If you know that a child is really interested in archery, AND they are going to stick with it, it is far better to purchase one of these bows, like the Bowtech. Check them out...they are pretty amazing, and very nice for the price...and will get you 10 times the use that this Bear will get you. Something to consider...

It took some tweaking, but now it's perfect.
My 10 year old loves it....now. The instructions weren't very good so we put it together the best we could. There was to much slack and we weren't sure how to fix it. The arrows were just being lobbed, not shot. We took it to the archery guy at Dicks Sporting Goods, and he made a couple of quick adjustments and gave him some tips on how to hold it and aim and it made a world of difference! The arrows shot across the yard and his accuracy improved 100%. This is a great starter set, just don't be afraid to ask for help getting started.

the kids love it, but ...
i bought two - one black and one pink - as first bows for Christmas presents.pros:* relatively cheap* the kids love them so far* comes with point site and whisker biscuitcons:* doesn't have a standard type of bow string, so you cannot attach a standard release loop* included quiver drops arrows - even the ones which come with the setdefinitely a beginner bow, and not very usable outside simply learning the basics.

A great Bow for a child with a year of Archer.
I bought this for my son. He had been using a very simple first time bow. This was a great step up for him. He has used using it for a year now. It is a nice bow to bridge between a starters bow and a real first time bow. It is a great bow. My son is seven years old. He has a little problem with the pull, but overall it is a great bow with great quality.

Terrific Fun
Contributed to the delinquency of an 8 year old boy who has been dreaming about having a "real" bow ---- so much so, that he contributed half of it's cost through the dreaded 4 letter word --- 'WORK"Delivery was fast and furious ---- about 3 working days.Set up is pretty simple ---- even if you don't know how to set up the add ons necessary for a compound bow. The arrow rest makes for easy arrow control, but does take away from the flight performance. At best angle, this bow will launch the included arrow about 70 yards ---- plenty good enough for a starter bowman/girl.The site is a simple, single pin ---- could be better with an orange site versus dark green (grandson shoots against a grassy hill), and counts on a really consistent anchor point. The quiver is hit or miss ---- if you like bow mounted quivers, it's okay, but the grandson is already looking for an over-the-shoulder quiver.Good for his size, though, I suspect if he keeps with it, he'll be moving up very soon ---- both of his parents are 6'+ tall!

Great looking bow, but draw weight is way off (almost double)
I purchased this for my 8 year old daughter. We just got back from our archery pro - when he tested the draw weight on this, the minimum he could set it to was 28 pounds, with the maximum being 34 pounds. The specs on this bow say that the draw weight is 15-20 pounds. Ours is almost double that. Needless to say, my daughter cannot pull this. Our pro contacted his supplier for Bear bows and apparently this is a very common issue with this model (Brave 3), that Bear has a lot of issues with achieving the draw weight they advertize on this one. Sad actually, since the frame seems very sturdy, not cheap like many others out there. Maybe the steel cable has something to do with it? I have no idea. Returned the same day I received it and will buy something else.

great kid's starter
This is a nice little bow for a kid. For the price it is good. It's mostly for playing around and getting a little one used to a bow, for that purpose I would recommend it.

Pretty good stuff
The quality of the bow is excellent, it is really nice product, however, I expected it to be bigger than it really are.
