RYOBI A99HT2 Door Hinge Installation Kit/Mortiser Template

As a pro, normally I would walk right past this brand name, and all the plastic. A DIY friend had one, and I had to use it. I certainly was impressed with several things.It is simple and accurate to use, Measure the hinge location on the door jamb, subtract 1/8", mark that on the the edge of the door, and put this jig on with its integral clamps. Set the depth of the INCLUDED top-bearing router bit, and rout away. Perfect results first time.What really impressed me was that the hinge corner radius could be changed from small radius to the large radius by flipping over two parts of the jig. Square corners just need to be squared up with a chisel after routing.The jig holds and stores the included router bit when not in use, and has depth guides built in for thin or thick hinges. It can be EASILY adjusted for the different hinge lengths in seconds.At first I didn't like the plastic. Until I got careless and tipped the router and took a chunk out of the jig. No damage to the bit, and since the chunk was not in a critical location, the jig still works great.There is an included drill bit, I guess for the screw holes, but no storage for it. Besides, I would highly recommend the self-centering drill bits for any hinge for strike plate drilling, but that is another tool and another review.Bottom line, despite the color and the brand name, and the all-plastic construction, this tool can save a tone of time. Hang a door slab in an existing opening in a hurry.I recommend a smaller router with a good micro adjustment. I think a big router would work fine, but would be a little more difficult to handle.

I decided I'd start replacing our ancient internal doors and thought I'd give this a go. I'm a pretty decent DIY'er but wanted to be able to make the cuts clean and easy.This gizmo is made of plastic and has a vice grip. To use it you basically clamp it onto the door where you want the hinge. It has adjustments for different width hinges, and little removable clips to choose curved or square hinge corners.It comes with a router bit (1/4" shank) that has a roller bearing guide. It has a depth guide too, so you fit the router bit and then adjust the router to get the depth right.You then just put your router into the top of the plastic guide and move it around, cutting out the wood. The bearing on the router bit stops you hacking the plastic about.It works really well. The supplied bit was nice and sharp. As it's only a shallow cut you don't need a super powered router. I used a router attachment on my Black and Decker Matrix tool.

This is a really slick tool. It is super easy to use, and route out the wood for the hinges. The only problem is it is plastic and I did 12 Hinges, and if you pull the router out and hit the plastic guides it really rips up the tool. But it was super easy. my only question is should I match the taper of the door or do it level. either way my doors close perfectly.

I purchased this door hinge mortiser kit to change 14 raised panel oak doors in my home. My first impression was that it seemed a bit flimsy as it was made out of somewhat flexible plastic. However it was quite easy and efficient to use and exactly reproduced my hinge mortises without mistakes. Although it probably would not hold up for someone who was using it frequently, it is a quite inexpensive tool and would be more than adequate for a homeowner who wanted to replace all the doors in his/her home.

Once I've got the work are set up, I can hang replacement door slabs in 20 minutes each using this tool. Way better than a chisel. I'm using this with a Bosch Colt router and it works great. A couple things to make you successful: 1) you MUST have a large base plate on your router. if you use a small base plate, the bit tends to fall into the cut at the adjustable side of the jig leaving an 1/8inch deep cut about the size of the bit. 2) turn the router on/off while still resting in the jig, otherwise you'll end up cutting plastic. I didn't follow this rule a couple times and now the jig is chewed up in a few areas. I recommend getting a jig for every 10 door slabs you plan on installing to make up for mistakes that wear it out. It's still well worth the time saved even if you treat it like a consumable.

I bought this after realizing all of our new interior doors didn't come with hinge plates mortised. This is such a simple but handy design that makes a daunting task like mortising 20 doors a breeze. I highly recommend. I did buy an additional router bit just in case, but the included bit did the task with no issues!

This unit is quite easy to use. My only problem was with my antique Porter Cable trim router and the fact that the shank on the included router bit is shorter than I like.I am not a professional, I am only a DIY person. I have built doors before and for those doors it only took me a few minutes to make a template from scrap wood that worked as well as this tool.So this the reason for my moderate rating. It works well, but it isn't really needed.

It didn’t make much diff but they sent the HT3. There is no setting for hinge width. So it allows to much for UK hinges. The depth and length are perfect but I had to tape a piece of wood to get the depth right. Really made the job quick after I had done that.

Bought this for my husband, he was working at his parents doing a few upgrades with doors in the house for them and he mentioned he could really use one of these... Happy Hubby!!!Easy to use and professional results!

A-bloody-mazing! Why I didn’t find this earlier I do not know. Made my life much simpler with hanging my new doors throughout the house. Great purchase and saved hundreds on professional fees.
