Ganesha: The Scientific Symbolism of a Hindu God

Informative, Thoroughly Interesting Read
This book is a great read. It is -- as you should infer from the title -- not written from a religious standpoint but rather delves into how Shri Ganesha evolved from a historical standpoint, and how He relates to other cosmologies (namely that of the Dogon people and the Egyptians). The author does get into technical scientific details, but correlates these to the symbolism of Shri Ganesha. It definitely has triggered an interest in learning more about some of the sources referenced, and left me considerably richer than when I first opened it.

Very informative
Good read from the author. I needing my dictionary handy throughout, but was well worth the read as are most all of Laird’s books.

The title should be changed.
I was really looking forward to reading this book. I'm not even half way through it and am feeling totally let down. The title shouldn't of been called "Ganesha The scientific symbolism of a Hindu God." Instead it should be "The Dogon tribe and comparing the Hindu God Ganesha." There is nothing scientific about this authors findings. I find he is clutching at straws and is obsessed about the Dogon Tribe. Its rare that Ganesha is even mentioned. I'm finding it extremely boring. I'm a qualified dream analyst therapist as well as a qualified astronomy researcher. Who loves science but this book is all wrong. It's misleading, it clutches at straws and there is nothing scientific about it. A real let down.
