Awesome with a few cautions!
UPDATE: It didn't actually "kill" the POA, but then again it's not actually indicated for it. It died off above ground, but all seemed to recover and came back with a vengeance. I've blanket sprayed 2x, I think that's the annual limit because it supposedly stays active in the soil. Active? Oddly, there's dollar weed coming back? I still call this a 5* product for doing what it says, but am now shopping something a little less harsh, that can be used more often for continued control. This did a good job killing clover, dollarweed, vbw, and poa in my st aug. Crabgrass is oddly iffy. Will decimate one plant, seemingly no effect on another right beside it. Be patient. It took about 4 weeks to see any yellowing, 6 for complete dieoff. I waited 4-6 weeks to respray. It's hard to mix, used a gram scale. What I'm using works out to .05oz for 2 gals/1/2 ac, in the included measuring cup. I hear this is hard on oaks, so stay out of the drip line. It may be hard on dogwoods, I had a sick one that is suddenly spiraling to its death. Be ready to battle sedges, this stuff almost seems to feed them, or maybe it gets them going by clearing competition. I bought a house in the winter, so didn't know I bought from a weed farmer. Excited to see what all this work brings next spring. There are a couple cheaper options on amazon. Shop around. They all seem to say spray or liquid. I don't think they are. I think it's all granular and you mix it into a spray. As I understand it, once mixed it doesn't have much of a pot life.

Actually Kills Virginia Buttonweed
This product works fine in Myer Zoysia turf lawns, and is very effective against Virginia Buttonweed (assuming the directions are followed and the second application is made). The active ingredient of this product (metsulfuron methyl) is the same as the herbicide formerly sold under the trade name “Manor”. Metsulfuron is one of only two selective herbicide chemical groups actually shown to be effective against Virginia Buttonweed, and MSM is the only one of these chemicals I have found that is sold in volumes economical for residential use. In fact at my local farmer’s co-op, even the container of MSM I found was 3 times the cost of what I paid on Amazon and would have been enough chemical to treat my yard for over a decade (probably far past the shelf life of the chemical in an opened container). MSM is very effective against several other broadleaf category weeds, but this chemical is not for control of grass turf weeds (e.g. crabgrass, goosegrass, dallisgrass). Also, it may not be completely clear from the description, but this product is in dry form, so “oz.” refers to the unit of weight, not fluid ounces. I was initially concerned when I read the chemical data sheet prior to purchase that this product would be impossible to mix up in lawn sprayer sizes (before I realized that it was not referring to a fluid ounce), but the product is not too terribly difficult to mix for a residential scale application (although the chemical data sheet directions are written for large scale applications). The applicator cap included has volume markings down to 0.1 oz. The recommended rate for Buttonweed (in Zoysia) is 1 oz per acre, so with a 2 gallon hand sprayer, the minimum marking of 0.1 oz will cover about 0.1 acre mixed at the 20 GPA rate. Use of a non-ionic surfactant is highly recommended, as this chemical needs to contact vegetation to be effective. Update: After two seasons, MSM has had quite an impact on the Virginia Buttonweed presence in my lawn. The turf farm where I purchased my Zoyisa had quite a buttonweed problem, and for the first two years after laying turf, it was pretty heavy in several sections of the lawn. It took two uniform applications the first year to start making a real difference. By the second year, I really didn't have to apply to the whole yard again, as a couple of spot sprays spread over the season seemed to do the trick. I haven't noticed an harm to the Zoysia grass after use of MSM.

Saved my lawn!
I have a small Bermuda lawn that was covered in several winter broad-leaf weeds. Lawn was probably 70% weeds. I previously tried several big box store products for post-emergent, and they never worked. This stuff finally worked! I applied at the end of January. In my region (Southeast US), Bermuda did not go fully dormant this year. After 4 weeks, the Bermuda is greening up well and starting to fill in the areas previously covered with weeds. Now about 10% of lawn is covered with weeds (mostly Poa Annua, which this product is not labelled to control). Pros: - Great value, it will last me several years and is very inexpensive compared to other products - Great broad-leaf winter weed control. Got rid of hairy bitter-crest, hen bit, plantain, and chickweed (and I'm sure several other types) successfully. - Does not seem to hurt Bermuda at recommended application rates Cons: - Slow acting. At 2-3 weeks, weeds were turning yellow and purple. At 1 month, most weeds are dead or dying. - Stopped weed growth, but did not completely kill weeds like glyphosate and other non-selective herbicides. I cut the tops of the weeds off with the lawn mower about 2-3 weeks after application, and the weeds have not come back. Bermuda is now growing in areas where the dying weed stems are left. - Difficult to mix for small lawn. It did come with a handy measuring cup that helped with the small measurements, but i was still using 0.08 ounces for my entire lawn! You have to be very careful as it can kill treas and turfgrass at higher concentrations. - Does not kill Poa Annua

Great product! Finally put Diodia virginiana To Rest!!!
Finally killed off Diodia virginiana/ Virginia buttonweed. Have tried many big box store products to no avail. I have Tall fescue and the lawn is not level so some areas hold rain for extended time periods and that's perfect for Diodia virginiana. Located in Southeastern part of the country. I used 2 4 D herbicide in June with no affect and in early March I used Anderson's Barricade Granuales and yard was still loaded with weeds. Sprayed MSM with surfactant and Lazer blue dye around mid July and it's now the 29th of July and all of the areas of the lawn that I sprayed have killed the Diodia virginiana/Virginia Buttonweed to the roots. Please use the recommended dose or less pending the temperature and the amount of rain that you are receiving. I have slight browning in some areas but, it's because of the high air temperatures. I wasn't as worried about my tall fescue browning as I was about eradicating the weeds. Had full stage clover that has died off also. I wanted to kill off the Virginia buttonweed as early as possible so that I could still overseed in the fall without any problems.

Great product but use the correct amounts!
I bought this product to control Virginia Buttonweed that was infesting my St. Augustine. I live in Houston so it gets very hot in the summer and products like Roundup For Lawns recommend that you use them before the weather gets too hot. I read that this product was reasonably tolerated even in hot weather. It worked amazingly! The trick is to use exactly the right amount. Since I was only spot treating I used half the amount of the lowest level marker in the dispenser container. I used .05 ounce of granules with water in a 1 gallon sprayer and sprayed the weeds until saturated but not soaked on an overcast day. It took a few weeks to see some spotting on the buttonweed, but they stopped growing right away. The grass where I sprayed also stopped growing but it didn't die or turn yellow, it just stayed short. By 1 month most of the weeds were gone and by 5 weeks I can't see them anymore and the grass is continuing to grow again.

Amazing Herbicide!
I had a bunch of weeds in my Orlando St. Augustine lawn from a couple years of neglect. I've got a large 1/2 acre lot, so weed control using typical weed and feed products is really expensive. On Nov. 6th I put down 50 lbs of Scotts bonus s weed and feed, which has the same active ingredient. By Dec 6th I had significant weed control, but there were still patches of weeds here and there. On Dec 6th, I filled a 1 gallon tank sprayer with 1 gallon water, 1tbsp surfactant, 1 tbsp blue dye, and 1/2 tsp MSM granules. I spot treated all the patches I could find. After the first week it seemed like some of the weeds grew more. By week two, I was seeing some purple veins and limp leaves. By the end of the 3rd week (and mowing on Dec 23rd), I can only find a handful of weed patches. Most of them literally disappeared when mowing. Today the 26th, I had to look really hard to find any weeds. I intend to give them a round of atrazine then I'll definitely use more MSM. (I just don't want to use too much, because I have several wild oaks.

SUCCESS! Perfectly effective for dollar weed on my Floratam (St. Augustine grass) lawn.
This is the same active ingredient in the new Bonus S weed 'n' feed for southern grasses. I made a liquid solution and sprayed in on the entire yard which was severely infested with dollar weed. It killed the dollar weed in my Floratam grass and the grass remained healthy. Be careful with your mixing and measuring calculations, as this product is very concentrated. After a lot of reading and calculating, here is what I did: ---------------------------- • Get a one-gallon container (I used a milk jug.). Fill the container about 3/4 full with water and add 0.3 oz. of MSM. Put the top on and shake it well to dissolve the MSM, then fill it with more water to make 1 gallon of solution. • Shake it again just before pouring this solution into an empty 32 oz. hose-end sprayer. (a used one, like the one Atrazine comes in). • Shaking the sprayer frequently, spray the dollar weed just until wet. ---------------------------- I calculated this method should cover 4,000 square feet of yard. I used the whole gallon (32 oz. sprayer, filled four times) on my yard which is approximately 16,000 square feet. Also, this means that for less than $21, I have enough weed killer to apply at least 6 times to my 1/3 - acre yard. !

It works but be careful
I would give it 5 stars, but I docked it 1 star because I don't feel that I received enough information to use this safely. If you use too much of this chemical, you will kill everything in your yard. You must do your research online, and read the reviews. You must calculate and measure the concentration very carefully. A tiny amount goes a long way. You must also have patience. Use a very small amount and watch for results after 1 or 2 weeks. It works slowly, and that's a good thing, so that your grass has time to adjust and survive. My result: Grass survived and the weeds (primarily Buttonweed) were killed.
