Refrigerator Evaporator Motor

Fixed our fridge! Worked exactly how it should.

I managed to fix a Hotpoint HTS18gbsarww with one of these.The top-freezer was filling with ice, and the fridge was lukewarm. The repair shop I went to literally talked me out of buying a replacement evaporator fan and managed to sell me a defrost thermostat. LOL that was NOT the problem. I followed some online tutorials and found out that the defrost timer can be manually turned with a screwdriver to set it into defrost mode. That allowed me to verify that the defrost thermostat and heater were fully functional. I took a time-lapse of the defrost thermostat over a day, and was able to verify that it was spinning. When I plugged the evaporator fan into 120VAC it wasn't working. However, this replacement one was! When I saw it spin I was very happy. I also had to manually unplug the drain valve using multiple cycles of hot water and shoving a wire down there (I didn't have a turkey baster and my experiments with drinking straws and bicycle pumps were unsuccesful). Total cost ~$15 and about 3 hours of tinkering. Probably would have cost $300 for a professional to do it! The professionals at the store pointed me in the wrong direction (they were very confident that the broken fan I was holding in my hand was not the problem). Shows you that the pros don't always know everything!Happy fixing you all!

No complaints. It is EXACTLY the right unit for my old GE refrigerator. The way these things die is that the fan or specifically the motor seizes up and makes a horrible shrieking noise. This is probably due to the lubrication drying up and parts no longer working smoothly. There is no easy way to open a motor that fails in this manner. I've seen that you can do it from youTube videos. It's much easier to simply get the replacement part and turn off the refrigerator, remove the freezer contents, unscrew the back well and replace the unit. This is a user serviceable part and replacement and once the food is removed takes less than 30 minutes to do. The immediate effect of replacement is NO SHRIEKING and now the refrigerator operates perfectly with no noise at all.

It seems that many of the original evap fans from the generation of refrigerators that this fan is compatible with, end up wearing out and making some REALLY loud noises.Our old GE refrigerator has been crazy loud for months. It was waking us up in the middle of the night lol. I ended up identifying the problem as the Evap fan and found this replacement here on Amazon. Swapped it in a few weeks ago and it's been whisper quiet ever since! Thank goodness!Hopefully this aftermarket one won't develop the same problem for a few years. If anything changes, I'll update my review, but for now, this is working perfectly! What a relief!

subtracting 1 star due to poor lifespan. replaced the factory motor in my GE fridge with one of these in december 2022, less than 2 years later and it's already worn out. still cheaper to buy one of these and install it yourself than to hire a repair guy though, so i guess it's worth it. just don't be surprised when it dies on you so soon.

Ot works great and fixed our issue. My wife installed it and she has no experience with stuff like this. Very easy and straightforward.

Works like a charm. Exact fit replacement, just swapped out fan from old motor, plugged in and it's working like new.

This was a breeze to install (pun intended) after watching a few experienced dudes on YouTube showing me how it's done. I had no idea that you can access all the freezer-related parts through the inside of the freezer! You do need to have a few common tools around to help with installing. The fan itself has been in there for a few weeks now. It's nice and powerful and does the job well. Spent a little cash to keep our 15 year old freezer/fridge going - can't complain about that!
