Product Description On the 80th anniversary of their execution, the new documentary SACCO AND VANZETTI brings to life the story of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, two Italian immigrant anarchists accused of a muder in 1920, and executed in Boston in 1927 after a notoriously prejudiced trial. It is the first major documentary film about this landmark story. The ordeal of Sacco and Vanzetti came to symbolize the bigotry and intolerance directed at immigrants and dissenters in America. Millions of people in the U.S. and around the world protested on their behalf, and today, the story continues to have great resonance, as civil liberties and the rights of immigrants are again under attack.Actors John Turturro and Tony Shalhoub read the powerful prison writings of Sacco and Vanzetti, and a chorus of passionate commentators also propel the narrative, including Howard Zinn, Arlo Guthrie, Studs Terkel, as well as several people with personal connections to the story. The Sacco and Vanzetti story has attracted some extraordinary artists over the years, including Ben Shahn, Woody Guthrie, Dorothy Parker, Upton Sinclair, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Joan Baez, and Diego Rivera, among others. Artwork, music, poetry, and feature film clips about the case are interwoven with the narrative. Review It's cleansing to see the facts laid out with intimacy and rigor. Sadly, a timeless story.
Nicely done documentary about two immigrants falsely accused of murder, when what they were really accused of is their foreign origins and political affiliations. A corrupt justice system and xenophobia were their jurors. Very topical, as today we are told by the government to fear immigrants from Mexico and South America. S and V belonged to a political group who called themselves Anarchists. Some of the Anarchists did commit acts of terrorism, but not these two men. One take-away from the film is that immigrants have always been a convenient target for racism and false patriotism, and most of us have immigrant backgrounds, so this is a story that every current American citizen and every immigrant can relate to.

They need to put this in the history books In H.S.
Government hasn't gotten any better in the U.S.. I think it's worse. Looks like we are going backwards. This country was built on the backs of immigrants who work for cheap labor so big corporations could get rich. I warned my children to beware. The so called rights that we are supposed to have in this country are being taken away. My heart brakes for my great grandchildren and all the other future children of this country. They are going to be born under worse conditions than we have now.

It is a great documentary by Peter Miller about the pitfalls and the failings of the American (adversarial) legal system in the 1920s. The film dealt with the wrongful convictions and executions which had been meted out to Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, two Italian men who sought their fortune in the name of American capitalism. Sacco and Vanzetti were also staunch advocates for the rights of workers, in particular, those from immigrant backgrounds.
