Our son has become really interested in Japan and the Japanese culture. He is not a big reader unless it relates to one of his few interests. We bought this book for him and he loves it! He is a teenager, but really appreciated all the information and pictures it provided. This was a great starter information book for him as other culture books for older teens and adults don't always break things down to help you understand the background to build the interest. He has enjoyed sharing what he knows with some of our neighbors younger kids and showing them some of the pictures and such in the book which they think is really cool. Great starter book for children and teens who may be interested in learning more with just reading boring text about a country.

Given to my 11-year-old granddaughter who was going to Japan on a family vacation. I was concerned that the book may be too juvenile for her, since she is an advanced reader and reads books beyond her age level. She loved it and she said that she felt she had a good start to her experience.

This book is fascinating. It depicts ‘all about’ Japanese life in rich detail with beautiful pictures and great writing. Being Japanese we can guarantee the authenticity. For us it has always been extremely difficult to talk to our friends what life in Japan is like, beyond samurais and sushi. Now we have this wonderful book which would make a perfect gift for our friends. Both adults and kids can enjoy this book. There are activities such as origami, making mochi, learning to writing Japanese characters that they could do together. The printing is really good too.

My 9 year old absolutely loves this book! I am pairing this book with her Asia workbook from Evan-Moor.

The book is full of interesting facts about Japan: from more known to less known. It is a nice geographical and cultural tour. My son and I both enjoy reading it, and we will include it as a material for Asia study unit.

My 8 year old daughter is really interested in Japan at the moment so I wanted a get a book that will cover basics. There is lot of interesting information in here, including myths, festivities, life in city and countryside. We enjoyed going through this book.

This is a great book. My 7yr old is studying Japan as his Topic at school this term. This book is a bit different to most factual books as it gives insight into the home and school life of Japanese Children and includes stories, poems, songs, instructions on how to speak/write Japanese as well as the usual facts about the country, culture and much more. Buy it!
