I just passed 6 months of owning these boots while wearing them roughly 60 hours a week both in a welding warehouse and generally outside. I can admit that I am not too gentle on shoes, as I do use them to kick pallets around instead of dragging them by hand. Despite that, I am certain that these can easily last well beyond a year or so of my abuse. To start my review, I do want to note that I am pretty sure I was sent a USED pair, despite them being listed as new. When I received mine, the laces were frayed and slightly discolored in spots, similar to if you had white laces in sneakers and dirt only piled on the exposed parts. The outsoles of the boots were not clean either, but looked like there was an attempt to clean them. I did not care to check for leather creasing as they are steel toes, but it might have been there. I did not care enough to write to Amazon because they are just work boots, but buyer be warned. Now for the quality, I can easily recommend these for anyone on a budget or starting a new job. I have spent hours kicking pallets and metal racks, jumping on and off a forklift and pallet jack, and countless items have been dropped on me. Through 6 months of abuse, the only "battle scars" that show are a cut on my right toebox where a coworker and I wanted to see who had a stronger knife (OSHA who?). I have flat feet and weigh 200 lbs at 6', a horrible combo, but these have provided enough support to last through the occasional 12 hour shift. I paired these with Z-liners for added comfort and can definitely say they feel better than my 4 year old redwings. I wear these more as they seem to be more oil and slip resistant, the only reason I needed a new pair. The break in happened really easily, although I will not list that as a pro or a con since I do not think mine were new when I received them. They are clunky, but most boots my size tend to be anyway. Overall, I definitely recommend these for anyone looking to buy either their first pair of work boots OR anyone who needs a secondary boot. JUST LOOK THEM OVER TWICE IF YOU WANT NEW!

I appreciate the convenience and accessibility Amazon provides for its shoppers. It had the size I needed at a much more affordable price of $73. Beforehand, I went to Boot Barn to determine my size and comfortability in person. They did sell the exact same shoe but didn't have the size I needed, so I bought the smallest size there which was one size larger at about $120 (this was their discounted sale price). I needed a pair of steel toe boots for work asap and they would have to order out of state because my size wasn't in any of the places locally. I couldn't wait so I bought what they had and returned it a couple days later because I really wanted to invest in a pair of comfortably fitted boots, not ones too loose or too tight. And that was the struggle with my in-person shopping experience. But if it wasn't for my encounter at Boot Barn I wouldn't have been able to determine my shoe size for this order on Amazon. Amazon delivered these shoes in great condition, and at first the shoes felt tight and it was painful to work for a couple days. I guess it just took some time to break into the shoe to loosen up the material. But a key note was the type of socks I was wearing. The dress socks about shin high were thinner material and gave my feet more ventilation and space into the boots. It snugs right into it perfectly. The socks I bought and kept from Boot Barn were thicker which made my feet very tight in these boots. So be wary of socks as well when buying boots. Definitely no ankle socks. I'd recommend going into a store to get an idea of the size and feel of your feet in the shoe, then buy the same shoe you really like from Amazon instead especially if it's a cheaper price. These shoes have so far been pretty comfortable and kept my toes protected!

I have been buying this model of boot from caterpillar since 1994 (Birmingham). They typically last about 4 years with heavy use in landscaping (summers) and construction/remodeling (winters). I often use my boots as a tool when digging, setting posts, and squaring walls. It’s not uncommon for me to wear the toes down to bare metal and the soles smooth. I am writing this review because I am disappointed in the reduction of quality with this newest pair I bought. My most recent pair was purchased in 2006 (this particular pair lasted especially long). There appears to be some improvements in the sole adhesion, and otherwise look identical to the 5 others I’ve bought. The one exception is the tongue design. The material on all my prior pairs was genuine leather of similar thickness to the body of the boot on the outside with thick foam inside and a durable breathable internal fabric double seemed together and neatly trimmed. That’s not the case for the current model. The outside is a cheap synthetic suede with a thin flimsy padding inside and a cheap (thin) liner. It’s single seamed and rough cut together. I will keep this pair as I believe the body of the boot will hold up, but the tongue will certainly fall apart in a year. Oh and the seam where the tongue in mounted to the boot is rough, single thread and intrudes on the top of your foot. It’s a friction point that will cause blisters until broken in or simply broken off. Sad really as this has always been a good quality work boot and a reasonable price.
