Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Mini Ink Pad Bundle: Kits 7, 8 and 9

Restocking old inks, some are my favorite colors & others I tried for the first time. No issues. The smaller blocks are easier to use on small stamps and to use on acrylic blocks with water brushes.

If you are looking for a stamp pad for a large stamp, this is not for you at an inch or so square. But for trying out the product or for general crafting, it’s great. Re-inkers are available as well. The Distress Ink itself is wonderful to work with, color can be built up in layers, great for shading or other craft results. Can be sprayed with water for yet another effect. But it is water reactive, which depending how you use it, glue, glazes, anything liquid could cause bleeding of color.

I use this product with my scrapbooking and cardmaking. I like the ease of the mini ink spots to use with stamps and that is does not have an oily feel to it.

The colors are great. This was my first venture into distress ink and while I enjoy them, I think I got a bad set after reading the reviews. I have to put a lot of weight into getting the ink onto the sponge applicator.

In my pic of the swatch of these kits, the top samples are dry (applied with an eyeshadow applicator) and the bottom samples are done with a water brush. To apply them dry, I rubbed the applicator directly on the ink pad. For the wet application, I stamped the pad directly onto a ceramic plate 4 or 5 times, then picked the color up with a moist water brush. The colors are so beautiful! I had no experience with these and they were so easy to use and I found them really forgiving if I made a mistake. They’re very versatile and can be used to achieve a more painterly look or a more fluffy, cloud like look. I love them!

glad they came out with the minis. I'm on a tight budget so being able to get all the colors would have been rather expensive if I got the full size. Also, since I don't typically work on large projects I find this lays down just enough color when I want to use it as a water color without wasting ink. I don't really stamp with it because the image doesn't come out real crisp but when I do it is usually because I don't want a crisp image. All of the colors in the distress line are nice, but you do have to be careful with some of them when you water them down and blend as the primary colors may show through or the color gets greyish - i.e. one of the greens turns yellow easily and one of the browns gets very faded and greyish.

I knew what the Tim Holtz distressed paints were because I had seen them at Hobby Lobby. Easier for me just to order them and have stuff sent right to my front door.

I have next to no creative ability. Using distress inks makes anything I do look "artistic." I use it primarily on Tomoe River paper (Hobonichi and single sheets). It's quick drying and beautiful. I will say, I prefer this to the Oxides.
