The answer, "If it originated in China". is incorrect. California requires a host of very expensive tests to establish whether or not an item contains any substance, naturally occurring or not, that is in a large list of suspected carcinogens. Some of these suspected carcinogens are only carcinogenic if you eat a huge amount of that substance--something impossible to do unless you are buying the purified chemical in question from a chemical supply house. Very few (actually, none) of the foods and herbs we commonly consume have none of these chemicals. However, if an herb company declines to go through this testing process--because to do so would make the ultimate cost to the consumer prohibitively high--then they MUST put this (useless) warning on their products--otherwise they are banned from selling that product in California. This question is routinely asked on virtually ALL of the herbs and supplements sold. People get very bent out of shape when they see it, needlessly so.

Yes you can make a tea or add to smoothies. The daily serving size is 1/4 tsp.
