The bath tray came with a 3M sticky silicon square. What is this for?

Dear customer, the 3M sticky silicon square can be broken into 4 strips. You can stick them on the 4 corners underneath the bathtub tray, by doing that, the bathtub tray won't slip off your bathtub.

Will it hold a book and keep its pages open?

No. You can lean the book on the pop up support but it wont hold it open.

Is the surface of the bathtub tray smooth enough?

Yes, the tray is made of very smooth bamboo.

Are you able to get it wet? If you do get it will simply wiping away the water prevent mold or does water seep into the wood?

No. Water will not seep into the wood of our bathtub tray. The technology works by spraying a waterproofing coat over the exterior of our bathtub tray.
