Great laptop...subject to "Deal-itis"
On balance, despite the fact that it gets *very* warm, I'm very, very pleased with the other attributes of this machine. Only thing is, a week after I bought it and configured it, Lenovo put it on deal for over $400 less than I paid here on Amazon. If you have the luxury of time before you have to purchase, it really pays to search very carefully & thoroughly for these. Oh well, I guess that's just the nature of laptop marketing these days. Solid machine.

high end computer
x1 carbons continue to be really good laptops, this is my third one, I've been using thinkpads a long time and x1 carbons since the first generation. A lot of software developers tend towards thinkpads, Linux drops right onto them and works great right away (I use Fedora). Other good laptops (the apple ones and Microsoft surface for example) have too much non-opensource hardware...

Great laptop
I’ve used a MacBook Pro for the last several years and the time came to update to a newer model. Before jumping right into another MacBook, I decided to look at PCs. After comparing multiple laptops, including a newer MacBook, I finally settled on the Lenovo laptop. The price was a big selling point due to the functionality of the Lenovo compared to all the other models.I feel you cannot go wrong with this computer.

Durable, typist dream machine.
Got this for my wife and she loves it. Battery lasts for her grad school classes, has a good screen (nothing amazing but we didn't want a 4K, HDR, touchscreen) that gets plenty bright, and typing is a dream she says.

Returned for credit
The screen was defective and I immediately returned it for credit. The seller shipped promptly.

hardware defect ruined what could be a great experience
it would be a near perfect laptop if it wasn’t for a shameful battery/motherboard defect that causes the laptop to go into sleep/hibernation mode every few minutes.it’s an hardware bug and there should be a “recall”. but there isn’t.my x1 carbon 7 gen came with this defect right out of the box!be aware, apparently this is a somewhat known hardware bug with the x1 carbon 7 gen lineup.

Batteries suck!
I only had this laptop for a year and half and the battery is already shot. Lasts at max 1hr and then dies.Is this computer even brand new? I have a feeling it was used!!!

7th gen X-1 is a downgrade from prior gens
I have used Thinkpad laptops exclusively for the past 17 years. I have had X-1 models exclusively for about 5 years. I just purchased a 7th gen X-1 carbon direct from Lenovo but it is going back for refund.During all my years of Thinkpads, the touchpads just kept getting better and better.....until the 7th gen X-1. The touchpad in the 7th gen is a downgrade with reduced features. Worse, the features missing are ones that I use constantly when using the computer. The missing features are: 1) No one-finger scrolling, 2) No chiral motion scrolling. Now, the ONLY way to scroll is to use 2 fingers. If you can be satisfied giving up the convenience of one-finger scrolling and chiral scrolling, then the 7th gen will probably serve you well. But I would rather stick with my old X-1 carbon and have the more convenient navigation I grew accustomed over the past many years with Thinkpads. Another compensating factor from sticking with my old X-1 is that I still have the Windows 7 on it that I paid extra for in order to avoid Windows 8 and now Windows 10. Unfortunately Microsoft is ending support for Windows 7 very soon, but I am now going to hang on and pray mine keeps working well without more updates from Microsoft. Windows 10 especially is offensive since it has become an advertising vehicle for Microsoft to force ads in front of you.....it is offensive that you have to pay to use Windows 10 and have to also endure advertising intrusions.
