2-Drawer Lateral File Cabinet, Black

This cabinet is awesome! It looks great in my office area and is very easy to assemble. It took me about 20 minutes to put it together. It's sturdy and and made of decent quality materials. Although the box was damaged upon arrival the contents were pristine. No dents and no scratches. I was hoping that the files would hang sideways so I could fit more folders in there but they do not. They face forward like traditional cabinets (2nd photo). On the plus side it can be configured to hang both legal and standard sized documents (3rd photo).

If you have even basic "handy" skills, you can ignore all the reviews complaining about the assembly. The instructions are excellent and more than detailed enough to put it together. Yes, there are quite a few pieces and a good bit of hardware, but if you go step by step, anyone who can properly operate a #2 philips screwdriver (the only tool you'll need), can have it together in well under an hour. Tip: Dont over-tighten the smaller cams, they will shatter. The hardware kit actually comes with a spare or 2 of each fastener! If the file folder support rails dont stay in place or fall out of the slots, you have them installed wrong, read the instructions and look at the pretty pictures!!Lastly, if you wont have anything very heavy in the cabinet, or if you wont have a balanced amount of weight in each drawer, attach it to the wall with the included hardware!!

I wasn't sure when I read the reviews and all the issues people had with assembly. Yes it has a lot of hardware but it's worth it. The unit is well built, looks great, and is a great value considering a single 2 drawer cabinet would cost what this does or more. I also like the versatility of being able to convert the drawers between legal and standard. Overall a great product that is well worth the money.

Very misleading description! No where in the description is it mentioned that 2-3hrs assembly time is required. I am a mechanical engineer and love putting things together. I have put together many rooms worth of Ikea furniture and enjoyed it but Z-line is NOT ikea. Z-line is horribly engineered and has 2-3 times the connectors as an Ikea product as well as requiring GLUE. After 45 minutes of assembly I realized I was only 1/4 done and it would take me 2-3 hours more to finish. 3 hours of my time to end up with a flimsy particle board file cabinet with cheap thin slides that probably would last less than a year. Z-line should lose selling privileges on Amazon for this deceptive direct-to-landfill product. Here is a photo of my cabinet in the dumpster. I scanned the reviews and saw a number claiming "easy to assemble" and "high quality". I can guarantee you that these are paid reviewers or company employees - dont fall for it! This will take you 2-3 hours to assemble and for a flimsy particle board file cabinet, its not worth the bother. Buy a metal file cabinet from your local stationary supply store.

Rating it 2.5 not really 3. The installation did prove challenging... I’m 55 and had previous back surgery. It took me about 45 minutes to get everything out of the box and vacuume all the styrofoam that was stuck to everything. Then assembly took about 4.5 hours bc at the end I had a problem with the ball bearings and my husband had to fix it so the bottom draw so it would close. Also the black covering was peeling off. I don’t think it’s painted but I’m not sure what the black coating is. In the end it’s nice and does the job and looks sturdy enough to last a while. I may need traction for my back tomorrow but it turned out okay in the end. You will save money but have to give up an entire day... if you had two young people might go quicker lol

Love this file cabinet! Took me 2 hours to put together by myself, the instructions were the most detailed I've seen and I've put several pieces like this together. Drawers glide easily, the entire piece is symmetrical (which isn't always the case!), packaging was well thought out, and it arrived on time. Very happy with this purchase, worth every affordable cent. Five stars.

Great, goes well in my home office which is used for other purposes as well, so look like another piece of furniture and not a filing cabinet. Husband had a little trouble putting it together but a true handyman wouldn't have the same issues.
