Caravan Canvas Soft Cooler with High-Density Insulation and Oversized Storage Pockets

Very impressive! Kept our drinks and lunch items cold for longer than we expected. We froze water bottles and surprisingly it took them 2+ days to thaw while keeping beverage cans and bottles of water cold. We only put cold items in the cooler. We were sure to keep the bag in the shade and zipped it up quickly. Nice sturdy quality with a smooth zipper. Easy to clean and durable. The two side pockets are extra nice and large enough to hold various items, like bags of cookies, chips, silverware etc. Would buy again! Even my husband was impressed!

I couldn't tell from the photos, but the zipper top closes like a book bag, not a rectangular cooler. I thought it would be to large for a daily lunch or dinner bag, but it works well. I can't compare it to other soft sided coolers as I haven't bought any others but the construction seems very sturdy. The interior liner is some of the thickest plastic I've ever seen. I like it more as the zipper is straight across the top instead of making it into a "box". After a solid 6 months of using this for my lunch bag cooler, I thought I'd update and clarify my review. The top zipper is doube ended, a feature I like as you can open it from either side, or zip them together in the middle if you prefer. When opened, the cooler opens into a square shape. which makes loading it easier than say a Yet which only opens to a slit. The top is also insulated, where a Yeti is thick plastic. The interior plastic liner is a single piece, so it's not a formed fit, wrinkles and spaces make it a tad harder to clean out but a gargen hose and detergent is sufficien. The one piece construction avoids interior welded plastic seems as in the Yeti. I had doubts of the usefulness of zippered pocket. But they are very handy for storing some utensils or paper plates/napkins, The Yeti doesn't offer side pockets. The insulation is sewn through in some spots (sides, corners) which would effect performance. After 6 months as a truck lunch cooler I'm very satisfied. The Yeti is more extreme, but not needed at teh price point for keeping a tuna sandwich from becoming soggy. This product (AO) looks very similar to the Polar Bear brand but I paid $20 less than that one. I recommend it for the price to performance ratio.

I did my homework on this purchase. I joined Freedom Boat Club a few months ago so I go out on a powerboat about once a week. I need a convenient way to bring cold drinks and food without lugging a huge cooler from my car to the dock everytime. So, I wanted to find a suitable soft cooler that was a good compromise between size and weight -- and of course it needed to keep drinks cold and not leak all over my car. I really did want a Yeti soft cooler but I really didn't want to pay $300. So I googled and read every review and article I could find on soft coolers. As far as I can figure, there are basically four segments in the market: 1) Yeti -- perhaps the best and undoubtedly the most expensive; 2) Yeti knock-offs -- a host of coolers that claim they are as good as Yeti and cost almost as much; 3) Mid-priced soft coolers -- like this one; and 4) Disposable, tradeshow-grade crap. So I've had a bunch of type 4 coolers and I'm done with them. They don't keep stuff cool and they leak water everywhere. I decided that type 1 (Yeti) is not going to happen -- just too much to spend for a soft cooler no matter how good it is. So I was really torn between Type 2 and 3 and trying to make the best decision. At the end of the day, it came down to a few good reviews for this AO Cooler, one in Consumer Reports, and the realization that the most logical decision is to take a chance with this cooler for $60 rather than a Yeti knockoff for 3-4 times more. If this AO Cooler works out, I've saved a bunch of money. If it doesn't, then I get the Yeti knockoff or even the Yeti itself knowing that it's worth the substantially higher price. So far, so good. I've taken it on a couple trips and it performs well. My drinks stayed cold and there was no leaking. It's not as heavy-duty as the Yeti or knock-offs but I think if I'm careful it should hold up. I'll update this review in a few months and report positively or negatively on durability. At this point, I would recommend this soft cooler.

UPDATE 10-2024: I've had two of these bags now and they have held up reasonably well, but if used daily like me, the main zipper will die (a beefier zipper would be a welcome improvement). The good news is, you can return the bag to AO Cooler (you pay shipping to them, they pay shipping back to you) and they will install a new zipper (and interior lining if needed) for $15. .. These bags also work well to bring home frozen items from the store. I work for the railroad and I've been using the 24-pack AO Cooler as an overnight lunch bag for several months now. Keeps everything cold for my two-day trips (using freezer packs and pre-frozen foods). It's holding up well. I carry 1gal of water plus glass containers of frozen food = heavy. No problems with the zippers or the handle so far (though I wish the carry handle had some padding). The full-width side pockets are indespensible - love the side pockets! Going to get a bigger one for road trips. Highly recommend. PS: I was concerned the 24-pack size might be too big for use as a lunch bag, but it's not. I'm glad I didn't get the smaller size.

One of the big questions i had but couldn't find a picture or answer was "So does it really have two pockets?" And yes it does. As for the performance i reviewed this unit along side yeti and Ice mule and a few others and this unit performed on par if not better then some units costing twice as much. The main reason i went with this cooler is of its size an features. I needed something high performing for those trip to the pool or an overnight trip out of town. This units pockets and deep enough to handle most of your essentials IE cellphone,wallet,keys and the cool thing is in the other pocket you can put snacks beach stuff like sunblock ect... And i love how you can fit 12 cans in here with about 7-10lbs of ice max load and yes it fill fit more cans if you minus some ice. I love the form factor once you put in 12 cans it is a stout sturdy little guy. I have this model AO Cooler and a few other for other purposes but this fits the bill if you are looking for a high performance soft-side cooler and don't need more then 12 cans "yes you can fit more" and you want your ice to last more then 12-24hrs. Oh and the build quality is great a solid canvas shell keeps it looking good and it resists, tearing, even if placed on rough terrain.

This is THE perfect road trip cooler. Compresses down unlike other "famous" brand soft coolers, plenty of room for a 12 pack of cans or bottles with a whole bunch of ice. One piece liner means no leaks if you take care of it. Ice was melted, but kept everything freezing cold for 12 hours in the car - even with occasionally putting in a warm beverage to cool down. Side pouches are great for snacks. Great quality, just the right size, and very handy. Expensive, but not extortionate - but it's worth it.

I've had mine a year and a half now and I love it. I'm an equipment operator and need something to hold lots of snacks, hold ice all day and be extremely portable. This one fits the bill and has held up well to daily abuse on the jobsite. Worth it. Get it. Holds a bag full of ice and a 12 pack. Pretty impressive in my humble opinion.

Great soft-sided cooler / lunch bag. As a railroader, I use it EVERYDAY for work for both keeping my water / refreshments cold and perishable snacks and sandwich cool - especially in the summer. I use either a couple refreezable blue ice packs or add a frozen bottle of water when temps go over 100° F and this AO Coolers soft cooler keeps everything cold for the workday! Just remember to always keep the main pouch zipped closed to keep it cold inside. Love the shoulder strap for easy, comfortable carrying and the dual end hand grips come in handy when I need to hand up my cooler on to my train locomotive equipment at the start and end of each work shift. The smaller side pouch pockets are convenient too for both holding non-chilled snacks, eating utensils or items like my work gloves, headlamp, pens, air gauge, phone charger, and other various compact work tools. Since I work in an oily, dirty outdoor environment, the cooler is also fairly easy to clean with a rag and either rubbing alcohol or dish detergent. I love it so much, this thing has become my daily ManPurse!!

After much research I went with AO 24 Deluxe. I am not disappointed at all. I love the side pockets and the overall quality is great. I use it as a lunch kit and can’t speak to the insulation yet as it’s winter in Canada... Only complaint would be the shoulder strap is too short to put over your head and wear across your body. Can’t go wrong for the price.
