Spigen Tough Armor [Extreme Protection Tech] Designed for Google Pixel 4 XL Case (2019) - Black

As always, Spigen provides a brilliant product at a great price. Fully protects the device with a nice 2mm lip above the screen to help protect that dreaded flat drop onto the screen. The combination of TPU and PC makes for a case that is solid, tough, *stays on the phone* (as opposed to straight TPU cases) and attractive. The PC layer looks sharp, and the kickstand is quite useful for watching shows or long sessions testing apps. Highly recommended, I've bought a half dozen and will continue to buy them for myself and my family.

Have been using Otterbox Commuter series for some time, but it appears that whole product line is discontinued. With a new Pixel 4XL in hand, I went looking for other options without having to resort to the thick as a brick Defender. I've had Spigen in the past and the quality was very good. I elected the dual component ToughArmor case over the other options, which were just TPU molded products.The phone slips right in and looks at home. Case looks like it'll take a beating and feels secure in your hand. I would say they should put a bit of a radius on the angles, as those with smaller or soft hands might find them uncomfortable. I'd also like to see a softer durometer "rubber" used, as it's quite a bit firmer than what Otterbox uses. Kickstand a bit flimsy, but I rarely use a kickstand and won't miss it if it fails.All in all, if you're looking for the equivalent of a Commuter case, this is it. If you need more protection than this case offers, go straight to a Defender.

I really like this case. It goes on snuggly, feels rugged and has probably saved my phone 3-4 times already. There's a slight raised lip to the front of the case, which saves the screen from touching flat surfaces when placed face down. The matt black finish is understated compared to the the phone's natural high gloss black finish. I'm also able to use wireless charging through the case without any issues too, which is important to me.The kickstand on the back is flimsy looking, but I've used it quite a bit in the last year and surprisingly it's still going strong; I think this is because the plastic they used for the kickstand has a bit of flex, so it doesn't just snap off instantly if you put the wrong pressure on it.

I'm usually really impressed by Spigen products but this one has disappointed me. As a case it's a good case, the drop protection is very good as is the general build of the case. However, The primary reason I ordered this case is for the kickstand. I should have realized when I opened the case and it stated very clearly that the kickstand falling out is part of the design that this was going to be an issue. As I have now used the case for about a month, the kickstand is probably one of the worst I've seen on a case for any phone. It's flimsy, and can barely support the weight of the phone in any orientation. I have yet to use it where it didn't fall over repeatedly. The weight of the phone repeatedly closes it, and it just generally is a very bad implementation.I'm keeping the case as a general phone case, but I will be shopping for something to replace it as soon as I can. It's a big miss for Spigen.

Does what I expect a phone protector to do.You do need to press high/low volume control buttons consciously. Case buttons make a click when you press them, but you need to know your button positions to press up volume up from down. On/off button has a nice texture to orient you in low or no visibility situations. I use the kick stand feature more than I thought I would while watching Youtubes and other videos. There is one problem for me that might not be for you. I listen to audiobooks while working around the house. Pixel 4 XL does not have a plug to physically connect earbuds. Bluetooth is one option, but for times I wander too far from phone I use an adapter that goes into the phone's charger port enabling me to plug in earbuds. Unfortunately, the "stem" of the adapter works fine with phone but not long enough to work with case on the phone. Be aware and get an adapter with a longer stem.All in all, I am pleased with my choice of the Spigen tough Armor protective case for my Pixel 4 XL.

Is the case bulky? - Yes, yes and yes.Does it do a good job at protecting the phone from daily wear , drops and tears - Yes, very much.Buttons - Clicker than the previous ones that I've had on my Pixel 2 and 3. That is a very welcome change - I like it.This is the best case I've ever use on any of my phones. I've been a fan of Spigen cases since Nexus 5 and I've had Spigen tough armour or similar on my Nexus 5, 5x, 6, 6p, Pixel 1XL, 2XL, 3 and now 4XL.For the 4 XL, they've improved the design when comparing it to the one for 3. The inside has a yellow thin foam. I am assuming it adds a lot more drop protection. The corners have this 2 line (indents) design element - which again looks bad in the pictures but good when you see it in front of your eyes.Do I recommend this - Yes and No.If you're looking for best protection and bulky-ness comes 2nd on your list - go for it.If you're looking for less bulky case, then check out other cases.
