Been using this lighter for 7 years....
I got this Zippo lighter back in 2010. I have had it ever since. I do not carry it every single day, I do take breaks from carrying it, but it has been in my pocket and used a lot. I don't smoke. I carry a lighter as a tool. I'm constantly burning off some thread on something or finishing the end of a paracord bracelet that I am making. The finish reminds me of a rough powder coat with texture. I really like it. It is still on the lighter and has not rubbed off with all of these years of use. I don't carry change in my pockets. This Zippo lighter is in the same pocket that I have a knife clipped in. It bounces up against the knife, but it's also not rolling around with pocket change.I have had to replace the flint two to three times that I can remember. Those were very cheap to get right here on Amazon. And then one time I even found a little cartridge of the flint refills at Walmart. It will hold fluid for about a week with moderate use. Without being used at all it will hold fluid for a little longer, but eventually the fluid does dissipate within a few weeks time if I just leave it sitting in a drawer.I've not ever had to replace a wick. I have gotten some in anticipation of them needing replaced, but just haven't gotten to the point of it needing a new one.I love the classic sound of the Zippo lid flipping open. This one still holds true to that sound. It hasn't gotten loose overtime. The lid is still tight in place and requires a good thumb flick to get it open. This company does stand behind their work. I have a much older Zippo that started leaking beyond what is normal for them. I contacted the company to see what they would do. They had me ship it to them and they overhauled it. The only money that I was out was shipping it to them, it came back to me with brand new insert and even gave me back the old insert to show what they had done.If anything ever changes with this Zippo lighter I will update this review. It has already been going strong and doing great for 7 years. If you see this without an edit the you know that it is still working as I have described. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Just like the first black crackle I had -
First off - works like a Zippo - no complaints there. The finish is good - no flaws, action works as expected, filled it up and it works fine. There's not much to say about a basic zippo - it works, they always work, they say the'll fix it if it doesn't but ... haven't had one break since the first I bought at the PX in 1990.One note - I like the brass one at home and in town, I like the black crackle for travel just because I don't want a flashy lighter out and the brass stays shiny for years even with use. I also like the history of the Crackle finish.

Nice looking and comfortable
As others have said, while this case looks like grip tape, it is actually quite smooth and comfortable. Textured, yes, but smooth. I like it and I can understand why it's rated so highly.

Great lighter with a history behind its unique finish.
It's a great lighter that has a very unique finish. It's sort of rough, but smooth at the same time. Built as well as all Zippo's, it's made to last. And, of course, they will fix it if it ever breaks, which is a throwback to the good old days when companies stood behind their products. One thing I always do when I get a new Zippo is to take the filler and wick out and repack it (with the same filler and wick). I do this because it looks like they pack them in about 30 seconds, so it's not really done in the best way. It's no biggie, though. It's simple to do. I just repack it so that the wick snakes down through the filler, but in a way that makes it easy to pull a little more wick out when it becomes burned through and you need to expose a new bit, though this takes a VERY long time if you keep the lighter filled and never attempt to light it when it's dry. Doing that ensures that you may not have to expose new wick for years.Overall, it's a great lighter and a very unique finish that has a very interesting history behind it. The finish was borne out of necessity during WWII. The metals they normally used were not available, and what was available corroded very easily, so they came up with a black, baked on finish that was very durable and protected the metal. Pretty neat. A beautiful and durable lighter that you won't regret buying.
