The Victim [BBC] [DVD]

I bought this because it was well reviewed in my daily newspaper. I don't have a TV so buy a lot of DVDs for entertainment. Having just binge-watched Line of Duty series 5, I have to say that this four part serial is but a poor shadow of a gripping drama. As someone else has said, the grieving mother is hard to root for which makes the series less compelling than it might have been but the rest of the characters don't pull the heartstrings either. This wouldn't matter so much were the plot utterly first class but there are so many cliches it's hard to get involved and to care what happens next. The director (?) tries to ramp up the drama with loud incidental music and tricksy filters which leach the colour from the screen but these tricks don't work for me and really quite annoyed me after a while. Please spend more on a really good script and less on filters in the future.

This was really excellent, from start to finish. The acting was superb and all they way through things were being thrown in to keep you guessing, things are not always as they first appear. I would highly recommend, its very thought provoking

There are no captions for hearing impaired- they appear intermittently. My husband is deaf and switched if off after 10 minutes.

Missed this the first time round on the BBCHaving just watched Kelly Macdonald, in Line of Duty (a tough gig to follow)Thought I would this give a go and was not disappointed

Enjoyed the story immensely.You won't be disappointed.

A good mini-series but it's Region locked to Region 2 if you're thinking of importing.
