No Limit (1935)

This movie was made in 1935, so I wasn't expecting a lot, but it really was a great movie. Very funny lines and a humorous story line and plot. My wife and I watched it and enjoyed the movie quite a bit. Filmed during the 1935 Isle of Man TT Race, there are some location shots that are recognizable even today, i.e. the city of Douglas and surrounding hills (based on videos I've seen, haven't been there). George Formby is hilarious in this.The DVD quality is as high as can be expected for an old movie; there were a few cut-splices where a word or two was lost, but overall an entertaining ride!

A wonderful movie with a Wizard of Oz feeling and background shots that are little changed from the TT's running today.

It was as good as I remember from my youth.

Wonderful slice of British comedy.

The films of the singer/comedian George Formby, the Lancashire lad who was a very big star in the UK in the thirties and forties, will probably not appeal to American audiences. Formby, possibly the male equivalent of Gracie Fields, played the working class hero, gauche and innocent, who had no pretensions above his station. Usually his films followed a formula whereby he overcame some challenge and won the heart of the girl. The attractions are that Formby was a first class technician in spite of his "dumb" demeanor, many of the films are nicely put together and when he picks up his ukele and sings, his charm is obvious."No Limit" is a very popular comedy whereby Formby plays a chimney sweep with an ambition to win the Motor Bike Time Trial on the Isle of Mann. The film benefits from many historic location shots, a first rate spritely leading lady in Florence Desmond, who is a charming singer, and an exciting climax, the motor bike race itself with some spectacular stunts. The print is first rate but there are no extras.If you are interested to learn about Formby, this film might be the best place to start.

I was agreeably surprised by the quality of this presentation, as well as the dialogue and photography. I had never seen george formby, or florence desmond before this film. I was impressed by formby's comic timing, and florence desmonds comedy skills as well. Of course, the period TT races appealed to me as well as the story. Miss Desmond is quite the singer and comedienne, and a looker as well. It is a little gem of a film.

I must disagree with the reviewer that said this movie will probably not appeal to American audiences, I am American and thought the movie was quite fun!I was not familiar with the cast, but my husband and I are both motorcycle race fans and found ourselves wrapped up in the story. We enjoyed it very much.

A classic watchable again and again.Living in the island its a must have.Celebrating the island and a mega star of his time.And the film story is very good no cgi,just fun.Enjoy

Great movie

Ich liebe diesen Film. Ich bin ein Fan nostalgischer Filme. Ich fahre Motorrad und liebe vor allem Oldtimer (und fahre auch selber eins, wenn gleich nicht so alt wie im Film) und ich war selber auf der Isle of Man beim TT Race. Die Ukulele habe ich mir tatsächlich gekauft, nach dem ich den Film gesehen hatte. Ich mag die Musik auch; ich mag einfach alles an dem Film. Ich kann mir den Film immer wieder anschauen ...

Bravo et félicitation pour la rapidité de livraison et très bien emballé.Excellent film en noir et blanc datant de 1935, George nous distrait sans arrêt du début jusqu'à la fin.Pour les passionnés de l'Ile de Man et du TT, pas hésiter une seconde.

This is a classic film and now digitally restored, and considering the age of the base material, its quite good - I have the original version DVD to compare it with - but is still very watchable today, hence buying this copy as I still think its worth a space on the shelves in my collection. Classic Formby - 5 Stars
