It was a bit of a pain to swap out the passenger side's axle of my 5-speed FWD 2002 Passat. I had to remove the upper steering knuckle to get enough clearance to remove the old axle and to get the new one in. I replaced the driver side 4 years ago, and it was easy. Apparently, there was much less clearance on the passanger's side than driver's.This time it was much harder, I read on a car forum, few people were successful in jacking up the lower steering without having to remove the upper, I tried that but it didn't work for me. Other than that, I had no other problem. The Cardone axle I replaced on the driver side 4 years ago still in good shape. The rubber cover one the new one appear to be of high quality, there was hardly any play on either end. Hopefully, it will last as long as the one on the driver's side.

Leaking grease from outer boot. Clamp not tight.
