This device is fantastic in my opinion. I was just looking for a way to play *.mp4 files on my "non-smart" TV and this does the job perfect. In fact, I was just looking to play *.mp4 files, but this device plays *.mp3 files along with *.jpg files. So you can play video, audio, and photos through this device. As far as set up goes, you don't even need to read the manual, it is pretty self explanatory especially the interface and remote...very easy to use. Takes just a few clicks to get the hang of it. PLUS, the quality is excellent in both audio and video. I used to play audio files directly through my TV, but it is better and more flexible to play them through this device. You have more control and you can also do some deleting of files also. All in all I would give this device a 5 star rating right across the board, especially for the price. You cannot go wrong. So far so good.

Everything turns on fine but when tested with several compatible USB 3.0 cables and on multiple devices it simply wouldn't be recognized. DON'T BUY THIS!!

This little box is GREAT!!! Using a HDMI cable to my TV, the picture and the sound are synced perfectly. The picture quality on both video and photos quality are excellent. The sound is perfect and clear. This is a great investment for my off grid cabin that runs on a 12 volt system. I have a 12 volt TV and I ordered a USB cord to plug this into a 12 volt system that drops to 5 volt and runs this box perfectly. I have all my movie digitized and saved on a 1TB external drive. This box powers it up and plays all my movies. Very good investment. The only bad reviews I read was that it stopped working. I would suggest powering off the unit before hooking it up to a TV or plugging or unplugging media into the ports. Doing this to the unit while it is powered up, could possibly cause failure and damage to the unit. Great investment.

This is an older device, but has worked well for several years. I have used this almost exclusively to play digital movies and TV shows stored on an external drive.The device has worked very well for me. It plays most of my videos, with the exception of H265 compression. This is a newer compression (although it existed long before I bought this device). It simply will not work. I just get a black screen when I play those. I also wish it could handle an external drive more than 2 TB and a flash card larger than 128 GB. It would also be nice to have a second USB port. Also, most MP4 players allow you to skip forward or backward. This has a fast forward and rewind. I guess others haven't tied that because it is very glitchy. Where you stop it to play is often quite a distance away from where it actually starts playing.Within those limitations, I've been very happy with this player. That said, I recently decided to replace it with something that did not have the limitations outlined above.

I used this product to play mp4s from a usb drive on an older television. It works great. The only thing is that I had trouble with the included cord, but i connected a HDMI cable and it works great. If the tv iwas using did not have a HDMI I am not 100% sure I could have gotten it working. Overall the interface is easy to use. Also the durability seems solid and it continues to play over the course of many hours.

UPDATE: 11/15/2017I feel compelled to write an updated review for the recent customer service I have experienced with the seller. The unit itself is attached to the inside of the roof of my Yamaha Rhino and continues to work satisfactorily despite an often times harsh operating environment. Last month while operating on a rough mountain trail in TN the unit's remote control fell into some muddy water rendering it inop. My fault - not the vendor! The remote is the only means of operating the media player so I contacted the seller asking if I could "purchase" a separate remote in lieu of buying the entire unit. They just sent me a new remote at no charge despite the fact the it was way out of warranty AND it was my fault that the original remote failed. In my book that deserves a 5 star rating. Thank You Brainy Trade!This little unit works pretty good. I gave it only three stars as it failed after 9 months. From the start the power cord plug stopped way short of fully seating in the jack - but it powered up and work well until today when the power cord jack came apart on the inside. So the indication is that there was an issue from the start which took 9 months to totally fail. Other than that I had no issues with the device - audio and video output was good working from either USB or SD ports.

I've been buying these for years, and the one I use now I've had it for over 5 years and use it every single day, up to and over 20 hours in a day. In fact, I sleep with this playing TV shows on repeat at night. It may have minor issues here and there, but turning it off or plugging it out to reset it fixes everything. It's made so well, and it plays every kind of format, EVERY KIND. The remote control is gold because it does everything as well. Add subs, go to a specific minute or second in the show, volume up and down, rewind and fast-forward, it's amazing. The only thing I don't know how to do or if it does is to add pictures of the movies onto the left side of the movie listings. I would suggest this player for anyone who likes to watch movies, listen to music or for those who want to look at pictures. Definitely a great piece of equipment for a low price. No name brand needed :-)

Very poor product. When it works it's slow and the response to the remote isn't certain even with fresh batteries. Will only play a few of my memory cards
