Magnets seem to keep them in place fine on my 8 inch vise
FWIW I found they stick fine to my vise and don't feel like they would come off unless something hit them. Whether the other reviews about them falling off are because some have been made with stronger or weaker magnets and/or the magnets stick with more or less force to different vise jaw metals I couldn't say.

These need to have rare earth magnets like Neodymium magnets
The strip magnets are too weak. These need to have rare earth magnets like Neodymium magnets. I need the aluminum faces for protecting parts, but these constantly fall off the vice jaws.
