Johnson Hardware Bifold 48" 1700 Closet Door Hardware

I recently bought a new house. For various reasons I’ve ended up replacing the hardware on 4 bifold doors, 3 using Johnson hardware and 1 using national hardware. Johnson is by far my favorite bifold door hardware. It is much sturdier than other products and the engineered design for the hardware and hinges means the doors open/close noticably easier/ smoother.Drawbacks: the door height must be 2” less than the opening height for proper installation. Typical bifold doors (say if you went to Home Depot) are 1.5” less than the opening. Unfortunately that meant cutting 1/2” off the bottom of the door. This was an extra step I wish I didn’t have to take. Also, there is hardware you need to screw into the top/bottom of the doors. I prefer this to drilling holes for the hardware. However, one door didn’t have the width to install the hardware (hence why I went with National). Overall, if the doors you’re installing are compatible with this product, it is worth a little extra money.

I purchased two Johnson bi-fold kits recently to replace old builder-grade hardware...where the tracks had bent, the little plastic pieces got messed up, and the doors were coming off the tracks.Very impressed with the quality of this kit. A few notes if you're looking to replace an existing bi-fold door setup:-Use epoxy to fill the pivot holes in the old door.-Watch the videos online at the Johnson web site. (Search the web for Johnson bifold door installation) The provided instructions aren't nearly as clear as they could be but they have good video instructions.-Took about an hour for the first one, about a half hour for the second one.The finished product is great...doors glide and close smoothly with just the right bounce. Doors stay shut as expected.

My biggest beef with this product is the fact it doesn't come in white. I couldn't find the aluminum version on Amazon. It works as advertised. It is better with great longevity than the junk hardware that came with the bifold door. I spray painted the track white to help hide it. The upper guide pin is rough (because I painted it) and rubs off the paint.I would have been able to hide it better with trim if I had installed it when putting in the closet. It leaves a small gap between the panels, but the panels are flush instead of turned into each other. It is also made to fit doors large than 18". I had to move the top pivot to clear the shallow clearance of my closet shelves. I also had to inset the lower support bracket int the wall. These were my doing and I fixed the problem. Be mindful that the installation instructions will require 2.5-3" of inside clearance. I found that the support pin snaps into the upper bracket and can be a bit difficult to remove. Because my door was so small (18") it was difficult to fit both upper pins in place at the same time.The best thing is that it is off the floor and allows for easier flooring removal and installation.Overall, I will likely purchase again for other closet doors I need to install or replace hardware.

The hardware and design is great. The instructions, for me, were confusing. I had to revise the setup numerous times. BUT if you go on You Tube and search for Johnson bifold, there is an official installation video that is VERY useful: had I just watched that ahead of time first I don't think I would have had issues. This may be a bit tricky for a beginner DIYer to do but it's a great product overall.

Worked perfectly for my new bifold door installation. I installed it myself but had previous experience. The bottom jamb door piece was the most difficult but I succeeded. We never had a door from the kitchen to the basement accept when I installed a cheap plastic folding one that never lasted. There's no room for a swinging door or a wall slider so this fit the bill. Needed something sturdy to fit there. It's a 30" x 80" x 1" thick. Most doors are 1-3/8" think so buy er beware what thickness you need! Very happy with the Johnson Hardware & track.

Hardware is good quality, but if you are replacing older existing hardware you may have to get creative. The top track was about 1/4" higher than my old track, and the bottom pivot bracket at it's lowest point still sits about 1/2" or so off of the threshold. My old hardware sat directly on the threshold. I chose to trim the door rather than chunk out a bit of the threshold to make up for the height difference. Also, for my case where my home is very old and things are not always as square as they should be, the measurements in the instructions were off a bit. I had to move the pivot pins in about 1/2" from they told you to mount them.

Useless, waste my money.

Second time I buy thi product, the first time I gave it 4 stars because of the wuality of the packaging. Nothing to complain now. Great product, good quality, easy to install and including very detailed instructions, something I've never seen in other closet hardware sets
