BRK Brands HD6135FB Hardwire Heat Alarm with Battery Backup

I got this alarm to protect my garage area in the very unlikely event that my EV battery should overheat. I know the chances of that happening are very slim, but this is just very cheap insurance. I love that I could simply run a wire from any alarm inside my home, where all alarms are interconnected so that if one alarm is triggered, they all go off. Now my new garage alarm is also interconnected. This alarm is specifically designed to detect HEAT as opposed to smoke, so it is perfect for my use. It was very easy to install.

I hard wired this alarm and placed it by my wood stove. If the stove gets too warm this alarm lets me know loud and clear three rooms away. It goes off at 135 degrees so it has to be a couple of feet away from the stove. It also has a 15 degree per minute rate of rise feature so the alarm will go off even if it isn't 135 degrees. At first I thought the alarm was malfunctioning and then I read the instructions :)

With a high BTU output cooktop, my cooking will sometimes create more smoke than the feeble downdraft vent can handle. This often set off the smoke detector in the kitchen. Because of interconnected smoke detectors throughout the house and an open layout, this created quite the ruckus in the house every time I cooked. The dog would go berserk trying to find a safe place to hide. This got so annoying, that I unplugged the smoke detector in the kitchen permanently. Realizing this was not a safe set up, I purchased this unit.Since it’s the same brand as the smoke detector, this was literally a plug and play install. As far as performance, it seems to work in that I haven’t had any false alarms. I also like the ability to test the unit using any infrared remote, which worked fine. So now I have peace of mind with a heat detector that won’t go off every time I cook. I will add that even if this unit does require more heat to activate, I’m still fine with this set up because there are additional smoke detectors throughout the house - and with the open layout, I know a REAL fire will quickly trigger other detectors.

Good product, replacements for current alarms

Unit was wired to a 120v circuit.Unit started chirping, so I replaced the battery.Unit continued to chirp, so I disconnected it from the 120v circuit.Unit no longer chirps, but is battery power only.I bought it for the 120v power feature.

It was very easy to install. I just had to remove the holder from the old unit and replace with the holder from this unit.
